Age verification and social media bans are explicitly ways to isolate queer, neurodivergent, and abused kids.
"Don't worry about the Discord thing, it's only NSFW servers and channels that will require age verification! :)"

I could remove every speck of risque imagery/topics from my community and there's still a 50% chance we'd get flagged just because we're openly queer.

It's not actually about the kids.

If you're Canadian and shaking your head about the US gov arresting journalists for the crime of doing journalism, well, that happens here too.
And instead of just being furious about it, you can donate money to The Narwhal, who are actually trying to stop it from happening here.

Canadians remember that Canada is also slated to massively ramp up deportations, and these police routinely collaborate with the CBSA, so racial profiling especially of Black folks can easily led to detention and deportation, even for long term residents.

I've been thinking about this a lot, for months: Gaza was a breaking point between verifiable reality and liberal governance. "AI" sparks fears ppl will believe things that aren't true, but Gaza SHOWED things that WERE true—& western governments, universities & news outlets pretened they were not.
What did we think Trump was going to do, if Europe showed him we would fully collaborate on the total destruction of the Gaza Strip and ferociously repeat even the most absurd lies about it to our citizens? Did we think he would decide: best to not push the law breaking and war crimes, be sensible.

Since a lot of folks have suggested ableist alternative words let’s chat about this:

Intelligence is not something that can be measured without employing bigotry and it’s not something that determines a moral compass or good vs bad

So any word at all that uses intelligence as an insult is ableist
I’m seeing increased use of this word and I just want to gently suggest that if there’s one word you can manage to remove from your vocabulary it should be this one.

It was coined by a eugenicist who used it as a diagnosis to forcibly institutionalize and sterilize mentally disabled people.
The Origins of the Word "Moron" Are Actually REALLY Sinister
It's much more than just a casual insult.

like i have been saying, if you have ADHD you should be standing with trans people on their medical rights for basic moral and solidarity reasons but also the practical reason that you can fight at their barricade or you can fight at ours but it's the same fight
then, the transphobes , feeling victorious at how many people they have made unhappy and despairing in the previous week, move on to anything else that has a spectrum and the possibility of more colours than they can conceive - such hateful people - they cannot understand anything that is not THEM

Sadly, this appears to be AI. There are some tells throughout (hands disappearing, the people in the background staring like collective zombies, some weird configurations on the walls) but overall, this looks pretty real -- it's getting harder to tell what's real and what's not. Which ain't great.
