The fact that we already have Health Savings Accounts and the most marketized health care system in the world, and it is also the most expensive system does not seem to put a dent in these guy's theories of health economics
Roger Marshall: "We want patients to become consumers again. We want patients to see what the actual prices are. We believe that if we would add the price tags to this bill, that it would save the country a trillion dollars a year."

UPDATE: 3 things I learned today

1) Political leaders haven’t thought much about the health threats of CO2 capture and storage. Eg CO2 pipelines have kill zones. Leaks can acidify aquifers and mobilize heavy metals.

2) 45Q tax credits for CCS are now by far the biggest subsidy to oil and gas

AND…
Here at the US Capitol to talk with some senators about the risks and harms of carbon capture and storage, which is mostly used to extract more oil from ground, enjoys taxpayer subsidies, is prone to escape, threatens drinking water and public health, and is generally scammy.

Science belongs here.

Please note that oil and gas are allowed to claim the 45Q tax credit without any verification that they actually captured the CO2 they said they did — and certainly without having to sequester the carbon 🤡

anyone else feel like a lot of recent news stories were pushed to exhaust us so we'd be too tired to say much about the recent designations of civil rights groups as terrorist organizations and people being compiled into fbi watchlist groups for expressing anti-christian and pro-lgbt views?

i will again note the slight of hand here. “respecting” public opinion is defined as being subservient to public opinion. but you can respect where the public lies without making yourself a slave to its whims.
This exchange drives me nuts. Neither the interviewer nor Bazelon acknowledges that 1) abortion rights are really popular! and 2) what ICE is doing is hugely unpopular!

ACP’s Grumet, by playing a centrist game by being risk averse not joining litigation against Trump & now aligning with fossil fuels to endorse the SPEED Act has pissed off a major wind developer as well as three powerful U.S. senators including Heinrich, Whitehouse, and Schatz.

Admit it: if you were writing a fictional account of a daft, mad authoritarian president, you wouldn't put in there that he *brags about passing basic cognitive tests meant to screen for dementia*. It's simply not realistic! Reality is simply not that absurd!

These are people who will actually buy several homes, too.
An insane political move. One of the recurring complaints about immigration in the U.S. is that those seeking asylum jump the line. This is line-jumping — but for rich people, not those in need.

I know we’ve been talking about the 25th Amendment being invoked for years now, but we should probably be talking about it a lot more and a lot more seriously right now.
Couple of things here:

1. Trump says he took another cognitive test recently

2. In front of "large numbers of doctors and experts"

3. He called the examinations "long...and very boring"

4. If you're given 3 cognitive exams in one year by panels of doctors, something is VERY wrong with you
