The provincial gov is allowing supervisors who replace school board Trustees to earn up to $350,000/year plus $20,000 in expenses. Our 10 Trustees, 3 Student Trustees, association fees, and expenses cost $185,291 in 2023-2024. I thought the gov wanted to save money?

- prov provided 78% of operating revenues for Ont universities in 1987-88
- by 2001 was 36%; in 2022 <25%
- result: lowest per-student funding of any prov in Canada

Is this what @liberalca.bsky.social @mark-carney.bsky.social
meant by a "budget of sacrifices"? The people of Taiaiak'on-Parkdale-High are... relieved, I guess. /s 🤷‍♀️ @kbardeesy.bsky.social

At the end of the day I'm not sure how much difference it makes. But it is striking to put out a budget that axes a luxury tax on yachts and adds a co-pay for refugee claimants accessing drugs and dental care.

As we await the federal budget, a reminder that social programs, access to basic needs like housing, food, etc. are not "Good to have" - they are essential.

"We'll get to addressing violence, poverty, homophobia, racism, etc. once we deal with the tariffs" is bad economic policy AND absolute BS.

$12 to wash and dry *one* load at the local coin-op. City politics convulses over a property tax increase that adds a couple of hundred to the bill of the average owner household but this endless drain on renter finances goes unnoticed

AI has huge potential to address pain points of human work. Stealing content is not how we get there. Guardrails are essential to advancing the best of the technology.
💯Every version of my book has been stolen by AI: English paperback, audiobook, e-book AND the French translation.

And as a consent educator, I see that kind of theft for what it is : A violation of consent. I did not consent to my memoir of the worst moments of my life, being used to train robots.
There’s also the aspect of those who work in the arts, for the most part, have an already difficult time getting by. Losing copyright law to approving an AI free-for-all is theft and will be devastating. 1 of 3

I know a lot of people talk about "Ken Griffey's swing", "John Olerud's swing" but for my money there is nothing more beautiful than Alejandro Kirk:

- 5'7 and built like a Welsh corgi
- basically drops halfway into a splits on each swing
- each swing is a Street Fighter "Shooooryuken" uppercut
