I like stories. I posted this one on The Other Place and many people liked it. So I thought I'd post it here for anyone who missed it. It's about travel, but mainly it's about trust, risk & reward and a reminder that we're all strangers to others at some point. But only temporarily... 1/12

I think you'll find that being dead is wholly biased towards death.

I did, and chuckled, which is why I made the GB gag you might have missed!

If you can bear the excitement, I photographed some Hebridean sheep yesterday. Very cute and inquisitive.

You'll be pleased to learn that the shortened version of the word 'transparencies' as used by photographers is deemed "hateful conduct". Take that all you people shooting others and exposing yourselves with no thought for their welfare...

If you had written this as a fake news headline a year ago, you would be called hysterical.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

The green-lane-as-tunnel type of interdimensional portal is one of my favourites.

While we're at it, I would also very much hope the term "creative artists" can include the category of amateur science enthusiasts with newsletters like me, so science communication can get a boost at a time when science is under assault in some places. 🙏

Once again UBI has shown to be nothing but a positive for society.

No doubt someone will come along and say "Ackshually, I think you'll find [insert capitalist bullshit take]" any time now.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

I say this with the bluntness it requires: they will get people murdered if this continues. This is not just populism anymore either: it’s completely unhinged and a deliberate choice that does endanger lives. I am not saying this lightly at all.

In a bold move, Robert Jenrick is set to unveil a controversial plan targeting what he calls 'activist' judges, at the Conservative Party conference.
