This is fantastic news. While the subway cannot convert entirely to OPTO overnight, banning it outright was an absurd proposal.

What we need is a strategic phased plan to implement OPTO over time where it makes the most sense, with a focus on improving service first and foremost
Gov Hochul will veto a bill to require both a conductor and a driver on every subway train, according to two sources familiar with the decision. Story to follow. Details on the bill here:

This morning, the MTA swapped the F/M trains at 8 stations in Manhattan & Queens. This is an example of "deinterlining," a technique which improves the frequency & reliability of subway service.

Read ETA on why deinterlining is so valuable & where else it can be used:

Deinterlining: Simpler Service, Fewer Delays — Effective Transit Alliance New York
Deinterlining simplifies subway operations, allowing for more trains to travel more quickly, and prevents delays from spreading. It's the correct solution for both riders and operations.

While NY is considering mandating two-person trains, the DC Metro not only already operates with one person, but recently reactivated its automatic train operation system.

Now, continuing to follow best practices, Metro has announced plans to move towards driverless trains.

This project is good, even if it feels a bit silly to spend this much time and money building a new electric rail line if they're not going to run it at least every hour.

I definitely recommend checking out Keith's YouTube channel for more great videos!

Check out this 1923 transit plan commissioned by the Chicago City Council. We use to be insanely ambitious. A network like this would've supported Paris-level population densities.

It's never too late!

Democrats: *get the most high-info, engaged base in American history*

Also democrats: "these rubes will never see through my cunning ploy to have my best friend vote for the bill I've been negotiating while I quietly feign impotence! Maybe he can even vote for the MTP but against formal passage..."

I’ve always had more faith in the party than it deserves, but at this point, it’s a bunch of feckless dinosaurs so unprepared to take up the mantle of fighting authoritarianism and with the political astuteness of a rock. Awful.
I'm hearing the same thing. Dems are nearing a surrender. I'm shocked. Largest protest in history + best election night in years + polling showing we're kicking their ass in public opinion. And now Dems may cave.

It ain't over til it's over, so please do call if you've got a Dem senator.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

this is why I think Matt Yglesias’ stance that we shouldn’t talk about anything other than healthcare is insane

the average American doesn’t yet realize that Trump has created a Gestapo. Democrats need to talk about it and raise awareness of videos like this rather than just ignore it.
Here’s a disturbing video from Evanston of a federal agent hitting a man on the ground as people yell that he can’t breathe.

New rule: put Andrew Cuomo on mute whenever he talks. It is going to provide the exact same educational value, which is none, given Cuomo is just going lie and take things out of context.
