The what room?
They are meeting in the Strom Thurmond Room, a big room mostly out of sight of tourists where Senate Republicans sometimes meet as a group.

I am deadly serious when I say that any liberal Project 2028 people should be taking names of the civil servants who go way past their authority to do stuff like this.

That is very much not me saying that normal employees following bad orders should be fired. But there’s a line. This crosses it.
That should be a career ending act of corruption

I think it’s a bummer that the GOP has decided it would rather eat the shit sandwich on health care than negotiate a bipartisan bill, but now it’s down to us to make them eat that sandwich.

if dems take the house but not the senate (and even if they do take the senate, tbh), they’re not gonna have much to do, they should use committee investigative powers to start lining up cases for a dem AG in 2028
Something every 2026/28 Dem should commit to is investigations of any company that did deals with Trump. A kind of forward guidance to get companies to think twice in advance of what’s coming.
Fox News will applaud this but can you imagine their coverage if President Biden hatched a secret plan to take over Fox News and revamp its programming to be nicer to him

A snake crawled out of the grass. “If Toad looks funny in his bathing suit,” said the snake, “then I, for one, want to see him.”

“We want to see him too,” said two dragonflies.

“Me too,” said a field mouse. “I have not seen anything funny in a long time.”

A lot of comments under this are saying things like "It's not OUR jobs to stop this, it's the job of Congress to stop it!" and like...NO. It IS our jobs as citizens to stop this; Congress is not some customer support line for us to lodge complaints with. We must be active in our civic virtue. TLDR:

The emails are news because they were released by a congressional committee, not because of their substance?

This seems like the same logic used not to report on the awful things Trump does because he does it out in the open while focusing on minor issues by democrats because they “cover them up”
The emails that you’re seeing now are news in themselves, but that’s because of how they’re coming out—a congressional committee released them—& the context in which they’re being viewed. A guy emailing a reporter talking about old girlfriends or saying someone is “dirty” is not a whole news story.

What’s galling is that people were training their fire on Republicans! There’s tons of polling to bear this out!!
Shaheen: "All those people who oppose this agreement -- staying in a shutdown mode was not getting us anywhere. They need to train their fire on the people who are responsible. That's Trump, Johnson, & the Republicans who have blocked every attempt to get healthcare. We need to be working together."

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.

Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

A leader would not have lost eight colleagues tonight. This happened because you let it happen or because you’ve totally lost control of the caucus in one of the most important moments since you’ve been Democratic leader. Either way, it’s on you. You need to step down. We need someone who can lead.
Democrats have been fighting for months to address America's healthcare crisis

For the millions who will lose coverage
For people with cancer who won't get the care they need
For working families who can't afford to pay $25K more a year for healthcare

We will keep fighting

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

It's actually a credit to the strength of our civil society that we're not treating ICE officers the way they're asking to be treated on sight.
ICE grabs father by the neck—send him into violent seizure while his arms lock up around his toddler.

"He's having seizure and they're trying to rip the baby out of his hands!"

Agents then handcuff him—before putting in ambulance with his child.

Mother is detained by agents as target of arrest.

"the revolt of the bosses" is a good way of framing the elite reaction to woke 1. what's particularly interesting is that this isn't a reaction to an attack on profits--it's a reaction to changes in workplace culture--

which is to say, the psychic wage of hierarchy
I suspect that the revolt of the bosses element of all this really is explained by: a bunch of upper echelon Americans really didn't like the cultural and workplace changes induced by Woke era, some portion of them were pushed into internet insanity, but most just wanted a shift slightly right....

A pro-affordability, anti-Trump-corruption message unites the party. Every candidate can run on that, and every candidate can have their own take to fit that to their constituents. There's really no need to find fights to pick when the party agrees on more than it disagrees
Came here to say this, but Jamelle Bouie has this covered. 👇
When the Democratic tent includes candidates like Spanberger and Mamdani, there is no crisis, or fight, for the party. IT’S A COALITION, NOT A POINT ESTIMATE.
i want to repeat this: mamdani and spanberger have run similar campaigns tailored to their respective electorates and it is maddening to watch political journalists attempt to create some broad contrast where none exist
