Ward 2 City Councilor, Somerville MA. Pronoun ambivalent.
I've had folks ask what resources they can pass along to friends and relatives in Maine and elsewhere now facing threats.

LUCE Mass is great, but not the people to call for ICE sightings in Maine. Try this guide!
New England ICE Rapid Response/Immigrant Support Lines:

Vermont Migrant Justice: 802-881-7229
NH Solidarity Network: 978-219-7586
Mt. Washington Valley: 603-726-6680
LUCE MA: 617-370-5023
AMOR RI: 401-675-1414
New Haven: 854-666-4472

Hey y'all, I'm taking the very rare step of cancelling my weekly office hours tomorrow b/c of some *personal news*

(it's my anniversary and I'll be out of town for a few days)

I'll be back for regular office hours on Jan 30!

I'll tell you why Trump admin dropped the appeal. Bc they were never gna win.

DEI is legal. That's obvious.

This was never about the "law." It was a test to see how much pressure you need to gain compliance. It seems all it took was one shoddy letter.

if you cant instruct your local police to surround schools to protect them from ice because youre scared the cops will turn around and instead help kidnap children then you should state that plainly and clearly

This is straight up fascist tyranny and complete disregard of the courts.

Completely unconstitutional and illegal. Every resident has a moral obligation to reject this.
January 21, 2026 at 10:19 PM
No! No no no. Fund things that ACTUALLY protect neighbors, like community organizing or housing.

I am not open to any talk of more funds for local law enforcement until i see the very first on-duty patrol officer ANYWHERE do *at least* what random Mpls residents are doing every day to resist ICE.
Public safety means stopping violent crime — not weaponizing ICE against our communities.

That’s why I'm proposing a bill that redirects nearly $75 billion from ICE to local law enforcement.
January 21, 2026 at 6:56 PM
No. No no no. Body cameras have always been a boondoggle that directs more public funds into policing and surveillance, and have never changed the fundamental problems at the core of our law enforcement practices. They are more often used against residents than for their benefit.
Dear @whipkclark.bsky.social: as a constituent, I’m angry you are floating bodycams/oversight rather than the full dismantling of ICE.

Good’s killing was already recorded — indeed, by the killer himself!

You cannot “reform” ICE. ICE’s purpose is to terrorize communities. #mapoli #AbolishICE #MA5

More of a guideline, really
On the law, it is important to understand just how poorly Novak viewed DOJ's response.

The decisions from Judge Currie on Halligan's appointment in E.D. Va. in Comey/James cases followed an order from the Fourth Circuit's chief judge assigning Currie — outside of E.D. Va. — to resolve the question.

I think it's nice that the FBI is compiling a voluntary list of sadistic fascists to consult in the future

Sure, the records retention is going to be bad but I have hope for the skill level of forensic hackers of future antifa bureaucrats
The FBI has asked agents from field offices across the U.S. to voluntarily travel to Minneapolis for temporary assignments as the city reels from protests and the fatal shooting of Renee Good, according to two sources.

The voluntary request comes amid heightened tensions following the fatal shooting of Renee Good and protests calling for ICE personnel to leave the city.

Corey Booker announcing his legislation to make ICE wear body cameras a week after the entire Republican Party excused an ICE officer murdering somebody by showing the video the officer took with his own cell phone of him murdering them is a testament to how stupid Democrats think all of us are.
January 18, 2026 at 5:04 AM
When a majority say "ICE is bad, but the Democrats don't have good answers for anything" it is both (a) largely correct and (b) a recipe for the chuckleheads in power to just turn the nazi dial down a few notches and remain in power for much longer

Which is awful

We need to offer an alternative
And yet:

/to be fair, I think this second result is driven more by high support among the GOP and frustration among the liberal bases

Imagine if the message was instead "This is tyranny. Do whatever you can think of to repel the invaders, as non-violently as possible. I will direct state and city police to assist or at least stay out of the way."
January 15, 2026 at 3:42 PM
This is obviously vile.

It is also obviously a sign that perimeter control and community patrols are being effective, if the agents are reduced to doing this instead of kidnapping.
Apparently ICE goons in multi-car caravans are circling Spanish immersion preschools in the city taunting and photographing the parents and neighbors who are patrolling the school perimeter to keep kids safe.

We need get ICE out of Massachusetts. There are 3 key things we can do in Massachusetts to protect our neighbors from ICE.

1. Stop MA police, courts, prisons, and jails from helping ICE
2. End the surveillance state from targeting us
3. Hold ICE agents accountable for breaking state laws

The success of ICE watch interfering with ICE’s mission is almost certainly why DHS keeps sending more agents to Minneapolis.

They used to execute their raids with just a few agents. Now they need 6-12 to even begin to disrupt the social pressure to be nonviolent.

The Somerville City Council approved a tax incentive plan which, together with incentives offered by the state, is bringing new jobs to Somerville.

Here's to the use of creative incentives (and responsible clawback protections) to spur economic growth! Major props to all involved, incl OSPCD.
Somerville needs more commercial tax revenue, so we’re bringing the jobs back! Pleased to see TransMedics has chosen Assembly Row as their forever home. Employers want to be in the 26th Middlesex District of Cambridge and Somerville 🎉

Note that the fascist is not using the pepper spray for crowd control. He is entering a vehicle unimpeded to depart. He is simply using the pepper spray to physically punish an unarmed citizen he doesn't like.
Big clash this afternoon between DHS agents and protesters in a residential street in Minneapolis, following a DHS agent hitting another vehicle. Tear gas was deployed in people’s yards and agents pepper prayed people.

If you're not willing to arrest the killer, don't arrest the demonstrators.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey says 29 people were arrested in downtown last night during a noise demonstration at a hotel reportedly housing ICE agents: "For those that are taking the bait and causing property damage or otherwise, there are consequences. We're holding the line here all the way."

This is an interesting observation. It certainly lends credence to the idea that there is not enough federal force available to subdue a populace without local and state law enforcement assistance.

Which then raises the question of what local forces will be directed to do now, and will they comply?

the thing that jumps out to me (I am not a crowd control knower so take it with all the salt in the world) but the feds are all freelancing. chasing guys around for throwing snowballs. half-assedly spraying protestors without rhyme or reason (and having people stay up).

they can't even form a line.
