This is nice work by Elliott. Note too that the only demographic group in which Trump has majority support is white non-college-educated respondents, and there he is just barely holding on. There is no electoral downside to opposing authoritarianism.

I get why a distinction between "America" and "the Trump regime" may seem immaterial to many Europeans. But Trump's domestic political weakness is something Europe can exploit, which in turn strengthens the hand of opposition within the US. Plus, the distinction is *extremely* relevant stateside.

There is not really any rhyme: there is no consistency or predictability in what he does. His actions in situation [A] will tell you little or nothing about what he may do in situation [B].
There are, at a general level, certain themes: he is indifferent to norms, he is cunning, he likes leverage, he will renege on deals, he has a sense for ratings, he will often back down. But these are tactics and improvisations: they say little or nothing about which subjects he will engage with next.
And nor is there is much reason: little or nothing he does makes sense, at least for the reasons he gives – or for the reasons his partisan supporters come up with to justify his actions and inactions.

This is what happened in our neighborhood yesterday. ICE snatched a human being off of our streets, roughed them up badly, and then pepper sprayed legal observers as they documented it all. This is a daily occurrence happening all throughout Minnesota right now.

It's cool that these guys just use pepper spray casually now, against people who are wholly within their rights, without a moment's hesitation. Several shots of them using it as they climb into their cars and drive away, not even a pretense of urgency or need. Just a parting "fuck you" to them.
