Tonight, in Chicago, North Side rapid responders and community members held a vigil. At least ten people were abducted by ICE in Rogers Park alone today. We uplifted the message RESIST ICE in lights. We spoke out, sang together, grieved, and reaffirmed our commitment to defending our neighbors.

There is no evidence that the extra stair makes buildings safer, but there is lots of evidence that double loaded buildings result in a range of bad outcomes for the city.

More risk of overheating, less green space, dark internal bedrooms, long hallways, fewer family sized units on small lots.

They’re calling it fraud & threatening to disqualify any business offering discounts from being able to accept SNAP.
Inability to accept EBT payments would end any grocery business in a low income area.

This section uses the outdated term “food stamps” to refer to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. Specifically, the section seeks to:

Increase work requirements for able-bodied adults without dependents by only allowing waivers if the state’s unemployment rate is above 6 percent for more than 24 months and disallowing long-standing state flexibility to calculate the local unemployment rate.
Eliminate categorical eligibility, which would remove the state options of increasing gross income eligibility from 130 percent to 200 percent of the federal poverty level and increasing/removing the asset limit.
Roll back the updates to the Thrifty Food Plan that modernized the SNAP benefits formula after decades of being connected to metrics and nutritional guidance from the 1960s.
Eliminate the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and create a national standardized utility allowance for households with low incomes.

The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email

Yes. It says no discounts “to anyone paying with SNAP” so if they just show you their EBT card with their name on it & they pay by another means, the stores should be fine.
Not that it would stop this regime from malicious enforcement.
