Trans people are outlaws, in the precise and technical sense that we are beyond the law’s protection. We might successfully stay alive for a little while, but all it takes is for one person to come after us and then all legal and institutional protections vanish instantly.

It feels like they really just took the first chance they got to exclude trans girls. I want to think better of them, but considering their actual ressources and the complete lack of any resistance, I am not minded to be generous anymore.

Reminded when reading this of all the "think of the children" hysterics and how much "kids are too young to understand trans people" lines are just adults projecting their own prejudices. While they be a bit clumsy and basic, kids understand the basic idea of being trans quite easily.
It was only 12 years ago that the coroner at Lucy Meadows' inquest blamed the media for playing a part in her death, hounding her for daring to be a trans woman who was also a teacher. Making trans lives unliveable - making us unhirable - is recent history.
