The cat's finally out of the bag! My big project is The Catterfly Rider, a brand new fantasy YA series created by Kasia Babis and yours truly. A true dream project years in the making and a labor of love for both of us.

Book 1 comes out in Spring 2027, but I promise it's worth the wait. ❤️🐾

Elizabeth Lazowski at Chronicle has acquired world English rights to The Catterfly Rider: First Flight by Katie Schenkel (l.), illustrated by Kasia Babis, a YA graphic novel about a teen in a kingdom where winged cats are ridden as mighty steeds, who must rescue her brother who has been kidnapped by an evil sorceress. Emily Daluga will edit; publication is slated for spring 2027. Claire Draper at Azantian Literary Agency represented the author, and Farley Chase at Chase Literary represented the illustrator in the two-book deal.

Here’s a secret: there’s not as many of them as they want you to think

1. 4 months ago, The Supreme Court gave families a right to opt out of LGBTQ+ education in schools.

Now, in Montgomery County, Maryland, where the case originated, the results are in.

Only 43 families out of 160,000 students have exercised that new right.

How big a conspiracy theory is it that Trump’s staff is feeding him AI “news” to get him to sign off on whatever they want?
atrupar.com
Trump: "They've had hundreds of people shot and then a guy like Pritzker or this low IQ mayor gets up -- the people are all against him. Beautiful Black women are wearing a MAGA hat last night on TV. And they said, 'We don't care who comes, just stop the crime.' They don't care if it's military."

Why are we still paying Jared Leto to do things, I thought we learned our lesson about that

Trans rights are civil rights. If you aren't willing to die on the hill of trans rights, then you aren't willing to die on the hill of Black rights. Of Jewish rights. Of disabled rights. Of gay rights. Of anyone's rights. Human rights.
talleststone.bsky.social
I hate to say it but the majority of the country is not going to die on the hill of trans rights. We can’t protect ANY groups if we can’t win a national election, so purity tests only serve to make specific groups feel triumphant. That’s not “erasing” them; it’s long-horizon strategy.

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

It’s Banned Books Week, and I don’t need you to buy my book as a solve for it (but buy it if you want to! That’s still extremely cool of you)—I need you to show up for your public libraries and your schools!

Ooooh, this one hits hard because there's a specific company mentioned in these anecdotes that I applied to early in the year that made me do a lot of work before putting me off and eventually telling me I was TOO ambitious with the writing test.
