The other issue is knowing where it is but being deeply lazy... my early voting location is half a mile away vs across the street which is why I've been plotting to vote since Saturday... and have not.
From the chat from other callers, everyone is having their own experience, but fwiw the biggest thing I'm getting from people is they don't know where their early voting location is, and were planning on heading to their regular location. They're different! iwillvote.com/locate/?addr...

The Walton family (who own Walmart) are worth over $400 billion, yet many of their employees are on SNAP.

Bezos is worth over $400 billion, many Amazon employees require SNAP.

The people who need help are not the problem.

It’s corporate greed. It’s an unwillingness to pay a living wage.

More of this! For Eng teachers, professors, or teacher educators looking for related research & resources creating connections:

A) Buy Dan/Johanna’s book. I was fortunate to get a review copy & it rocks
B) Check my 🧵 of resources & researchers. ⤵️
C) Support disciplinary literacy policy/initiatives
. @dan-sinnamon.bsky.social and I put CLOSE READING FOR THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY together to help connect what undergrads do in assignments with what we do as scholars

then we found ourselves talking to a lot of high school teachers

With millions at risk of losing SNAP in the coming days, a reminder: hunger doesn't happen in isolation. When food assistance disappears, families use rent money to eat. Then come evictions and homelessness.

Housing, food, healthcare—it's all connected. Cut one thread and the whole thing unravels.

A 200-person homeless encampment in Gainesville, GA, is being cleared this week. Many of those living in tents have jobs but can't afford rent.

One woman estimated she's been forced to move 20 times. "There's a lot of people who get checks that don't have enough money to get places," she said.

This is also maddening bc it feels like (generational) avoidance of (and therefore skills around necessarily tolerating/navigating the REALITY of) emotional discomfort is largely what gets us here.

One thing about AI is that it allows people to bypass the emotional discomfort of not knowing what tf you're doing, even as you're trying to figure it out. That space between knowing and understanding is confusing and frustrating and students don't know how to cope with lingering there.
Students using AI is definitely the thing that is going to break me. Not even failing grades work as a deterrent.
