It’s really hard to describe to people who are not artists how survival mode does *not* inspire creativity, as the myth would have us believe. It suppresses creativity as you try to limit every possible risk – and the opportunities that come with them.

It turns out building habits and stuff actually requires not being in survival mode, who knew?!
(Yeah yeah I did)

a reminder to all my romance folks, card processors have moved on from block payments to sex workers to blocking payments to NSFW artists. we are absolutely a part of this fight.

If we can get big dog publishing companies to go knocking at paypros' doors then that would be a huge boon for us. Flood the publishers as concerned customers, get them to see what's happening!

Harlequin Publishing's number:

416-445-5860

I left a voicemail with the first option and went down the list until someone picked up. Legal suggested I email her and she would forward it to finance. We should call publishers.

A stochastic hate campaign led directly from within Parliament by government MPs, particularly the Deputy PM Winston Peters, has just forced out an opposition MP over fears for their family's safety.

Fandom is a wonder.

Sometimes you gotta remind yourself that just because it hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't happen.

In the final analysis, a billion monkeys chained to a billion typewriters may indeed produce Hamlet, but anyone who would chain a billion monkeys to a billion typewriters isn't going to appreciate or recognize Hamlet when it finally emerges.

@martha wells:Your cover feels like it’s telling a story before even opening the book 💞 how did you shape that vibe?

@thathealeygirl:I didn't! This was a publisher design.

@martha wells:are you also an autor

@thathealeygirl:Yes, Definitely Martha Wells, we have a number of friends in common who I'm sure will be delighted to learn you reached out to me.

@martha wells:okay, i would like to learn and want to learn from you too. How many books have you written

@thathealeygirl:Thank you for asking, Definitely Martha. I'm coming up on fifteen books in September, a mix of (mostly) novels and a few novellas across multiple genres.

@martha wells:okay, can you follow and dm so we can just discuss and just know more abouyt ourself doing the same thing See previous

Every tech update now is like: "Great news, the word processor you've relied on for twenty years has learned to juggle! Is it good at it? No! Does it help in any way? Of course not! Has it made it insufferable to use? Oh, absolutely."

The people dominating our political landscape, culture, and economy are just so stupid and full of shit it's almost impossible to describe
A transcription of a conversation between OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and podcast host Theo Von on Von's podcast, in an excerpt from the Atlantic article "AI is a mass-delusion event" by Charlie Warzel:

"Sam Altman: I do guess that a lot of the world gets covered in data centers over time.

Theo Von: Do you really?

Altman: But I don’t know, because maybe we put them in space. Like, maybe we build a big Dyson sphere around the solar system and say, “Hey, it actually makes no sense to put these on Earth.”

Von: Yeah.

Altman: I wish I had, like, more concrete answers for you, but, like, we’re stumbling through this."
