Sad day for Vermont Democratic women: Emerge Vermont is being shut down in a nationwide reorganization of Emerge America. EV has been a real force in improving gender equality in public office, and a productive feeder for the Democratic Party.

Oops, Never Mind.
This announcement, dated December 1, is still posted on Emerge Vermont’s website. But those “training opportunities” will not happen, at least not in their present format or timet…

It says a lot about our political media environment that Democrats are called upon to defend things they never said and Republicans are allowed to emerge unscathed for things they're literally recorded saying.

government is not a business and I will die on this hill. it should not make a profit, it should provide a service. the point of taxes is to pay for that service
FOX: The ACA has never been more popular. Republicans are losing on this messaging. How do you talk to Americans who say the Republicans don't have a plan?

REP. BUDDY CARTER: You explain it by explaining it's not working. When the govt has to subsidize a program, that means it's not working

When we had society wide covid mitigations, we eliminated an entire strain of flu.

Now we’re in the “you do you” era and seeing an aggressive and early start to flu season.

So there is already an ai-generated whitewashing campaign to bury the name of the Muslim man, Ahmed al Ahmed, who disarmed one of the Bondi Beach shooters, and replace his identity with a white guy name and that’s why even a thimble of our potable water powering this tech is too fucking much.

Today in “neither our media nor our political system is designed to deal with a far right authoritarian party”
There's no rule of journalism that says you have to show a president telling lie after lie – uncorrected – many times a day. That's a decision that corporate media are making for purposes other than delivering the truth to the public.

I find there is a sort of free floating shame from two directions.

Some people feel that getting support from other people makes them weak.

Others feel that getting support from others is zero sum, and is essentially "stealing" from people who may need that support more.

Both are completely wrong
Most people do all they can to support themselves. People don't want to be mooches. It's just a fact most of us need support from others, but people are socialized not to support each other.
