I play and make video games and try to figure out work-life balance. Currently working at Red Stage Entertainment, but this account is purely personal and in no way representative of the company.

I say this with zero irony: if you are even tangentially a part of a retro video game community, it is your civic duty to push back against this company and shun anyone who doesn't. This is fascism tapping gently at the door and as soon as you let it in, it's going to invite its friends.

this is a good reminder of how things that are shitty but have been accepted as normal and inevitable can actually turn out to be abnormal and evitable with some science, time, education and political will

a sign people really want a feature and find it good is when companies make turning it off a 12 part process (firefox), require registry modifications (microsoft) or contact support to reveal the real off switch instead of their two decoy toggles (google) so they can claim people don't turn it off 📈

god bless the people who post their fixes to incredibly obscure software/game issues so the other 3 people who encounter them can be saved

special shout out to the people who post asking for help, receive none, then bother to make an update days later sharing the fix they worked out on their own

It’s not Larian’s fault but it chaps my ass that because they’re Larian they can have a trailer with a full on orgy in it in the middle of the Game Awards and meanwhile adult content in games everywhere else is getting cracked down on left and right.

The point of this post was to say "I value my free time a lot more as as 32 year old."

I'm a lot more weary of things as I have aged especially in the gaming landscape. So many current games treat you as a consumer when we are the customer. If a game doesn't value my time I don't value it.

Maybe instead of committing atrocities, we could just make the rich pay their fair share and have universal healthcare and affordable housing instead.

Idk, just spitballing here.

"valve is within their rights" is the most cowardly possible "I just want to shut down conversation" response imaginable to this whole thing. You can justify literally anything with "they're within their rights". things that are harmful to games, to art, to society, may well be "within rights".

This has been a great year for the engine, but there are still a lot of things we would love to do.

If each person visiting our website donated €5, we could hire 5 more developers to work on Godot full-time.
