They also are extremely vulnerable to black and white thinking and simple answers to complex questions.
It doesn't absolve them from the harm they cause but it does explain their motivations and affords them an amount of understanding as also being victims.
Adding this in as there's been a lot of extremely strong takes on this.
She's still a greiving parent. No one deserves to lose a child. No one. I believe that she loved her child, I do not believe that she understood (or even understands now) who her child was becoming. This has led her to either being used or simply making terrible decisions.
Ultimately I think that Esther thinks of her daughter's transness through the same framework as self harm rather than actualisation which explains her acute hyperfocus on the harms of social media and phone use and her solution of mindfullness.
From the call I dont think she hated her child tbh.

I stand behind this comment on this issue. I think the damage Esther is doing is unforgivable but I don't believe that she deserved to lose her child.

And I wouldnt be surprised it she didnt think that Brianna's transness might not have been 'cured' by mindfullness. Its a toxic line of thought but it has its own intenal logic.
A lot of the focus of the call was on mindfullness, which strikes me as a "this helped me get through a terrible time for me so it must be the solution to everyone's problems" line of thinking.

I'm afraid this is a mad take. Sorry but just no.

I know I've been on Your Party a lot this weekend but I feel like I need to explain why they as a party (and their reply guys) upset me, as an individual, and why I feel they are set up for failure on trans rights. Buckle up cuz this is gonna be a thread.

Not from a teams call 3 months ago on my locked down work laptop. Especially not one that showed other people's full names on screen and my workplace as well.

And what was really frustrating was that my work then followed up the call with a circular email that was essentially a back slapping exercise about how inclusive they were.
Yeah, the social pressure to not confront that on the call was absolutely maddening. There were a bunch of really akward silences followed by the person running the call redirecting the focus etc. It was really fucked up tbh.
It honestly felt like being gaslit.
Esther continually deadnamed Brianna during the call and honestly if you didn't already know what happened, you would have assumed suicide. There was no focus on external dangers or how we could combat them. The focus was purely about the dangers of how 'obsessed with social media' she was.
My workplace arranged a large teams call with Esther during pride month and it ended up being entirely about mental health and phone access for kids. It was infuriating how much Brianna's past felt like it was being rewritten and how impossible it was to confront her mother about what she was doing.

The CASS article is an argumentative essay, it has been incorrectly been interpreted as a scientific peer review.

Devoid of any sensible arguments against GAHT CASS subjects us to a carefully crafted sideshow of straw man conjecture, smoke & mirrors.

Media Boosted Anti-Trans Movement With Credulous Coverage of ‘Cass Review’
Some US outlets have followed the British pattern in their coverage of the Cass Review, not questioning Cass's tendentious interpretations, and sidelining the voices of trans youth and their parents.

Like.

We've been saying for literally months. And months.

The realisation is so. Fucking. Slow.

But at least it's beginning to happen. I guess?

what does he think the internet censorship, digital id, and reinforcement of christian patriarchy through transphobic policy is about?

oppressive violence against others is more palatable if someone has already first been convinced to rip the copper wiring out of their own soul.

A brief response to @bphillipsonmp.bsky.social talking about the Supreme Court ruling regarding trans people (and, as is always necessary nowadays, an endorsement of @zackpolanski.bsky.social and the Green Party).

- the “trans women in sports” issue and

- the “trans kids getting surgery” issue

were all MADE UP TO TAKE OUR RIGHTS AWAY
