As any military strategist knows, port cities are always particularly vulnerable to amphibian assault.

Maria Corina Machado has won the Nobel Peace Prize for her incredible fight for democracy in a country which has suffered greatly. But that won’t be the narrative the world will go with. It’s so frustrating that it will not be about a woman’s win but a man’s loss. I’m so tired.

It’s not arbitrary if the relevant minister asks for data from their relevant department. That’s the job. It’s like telling the chancellor that they can’t have tax income data as it’s private to the taxpayer. If Reform win the election, they get ALL the data. But you’re not listening and I’m bored.

Yes, because the money was rubbish.

The ‘potshot’ was because you are missing the point, yes government data is incredibly secure but that is from external threats. When the boss (probably reform) asks for the company data (people’s data) there’s no way to stop it. It’s BAU.

I work in data, I used to work for the government in data.
lamsie84.bsky.social
Which part of the government owns the data and can request that information at any point is hard to grasp?
lamsie84.bsky.social
What protections can you put on a database owned by the government? Whoever is in charge has access and can use the data to their own ends.
lamsie84.bsky.social
Yep. Adding to this that governments change, so who gets that data next?Of it’s the party that wants to remove a lot of immigrants (whatever their definition of it is), that suddenly have a lot of information to start with, all nicely prepared for them.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Or, if they do need doing, you have to question his choice in partners.

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

Seems like a lot of paperwork.

Yep. Also, bold of him to assume we won’t be one of the countries shafted by climate change, maybe we end up needing to leave?

It’s not really about knowing or not knowing how to fund kids, these are affluent people. The issue is that the way tax free childcare is advertised, people assume they are not eligible. It is badly named and badly advertised.

The tax free childcare thing drives me mad. No one in my mum group applied for it as they didn’t understand it until I explained what it was. It’s so badly named and advertised. The only reason I knew about it was because I worked for HMRC when it was introduced.

The only way anyone could possibly believe the UK's immigration system is a soft touch is if they've never known anyone who's had to use it

It’s only Wednesday! This week is a lot.

Exactly. Although I would still like a little silverware for Alex as well, as a little treat.
