I just spent 10 days hanging out in Montreal and it was further confirmation Vancouver can be so much cooler and more interesting than it already is

Case in point: this is Crew Collective & Cafe, an old bank with a cafe and bar, plus co-working space (for rent by the hour or day)
It was such a vibe

“Imagine if we truly understand complex whale communication & can extend our term ‘language’ to them. Such breakthroughs would not only rewrite biology textbooks but also fundamentally redefine what it means to be human & pave the way to instituting new protections for whales, the ocean & beyond”🧪

Computer, please summarize everything PG Wodehouse ever wrote in ten seconds
rich dudes got freakier after butlers fell out of fashion, like say what you will about having domestic servants but clearly it was some sort of moderating force on old rich dudes having a fancy man follow you around saying shit like "oh dear sir, that wouldn't be very becoming"

If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

Communities need used-book shops.

As the trends in our world are increasingly standardized and entrenched by "predictive" technologies that stifle innovation and reduce human actions into economic categories...

We need a full range of possibilities for readers and communities to explore and share.

BC racing is dead. Waiting on official announcements from Horse Racing BC and the BC Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association, but there’s no way the sport will survive here now. Period. The end. #horseracing 🏇🏻

Here’s my feature on the fireworks being cancelled, how it links back to the origins of “No Fun City” a quarter century ago, and why other festival groups in Vancouver are worried

grateful I got to say “evil doppelgänger of world class city” on the air this week

I think both cities can be fun if you can tap into grassroots activities. I just wish Vancouver could ditch its inferiority complex and cheapness to direct less money to one off “international” events and support local arts and culture instead.

I think if Canada wants to have a strong cultural identity we need to go back to doing what we're best at, making the weirdest fucking TV shows you've ever seen

Zero (or 0) Avenue?
That might have been a BC-only show - 0 Avenue is a road that goes through Surrey and Langley that’s right on the US border
Maybe you're too young but Switchback comes to mind on the cbc. There was also a late night show in the early 90s or late 80s called, I think, TV Zero or Channel Zero, maybe on the CBC but I can never find anything about it but have a memory of it being cool and weird (but I was young)
