Masking at conventions makes so much sense I don't know why we don't all do it. The chances of getting get sick at a con are so high we have a cute little name for it: "con crud." That its easy to get COVID at cons should come as no surprise. Why would you not want to protect yourself and others?

Depending on the depth you're at right now, I really recommend taking a look at CSS Secrets by Lea Verou. It might be a touch out of date (I haven't done web dev in like 4 years) but she has really elegant solutions to a bunch of common problems.
