I have always wanted to be skilled at visual art, especially painting. I had a lot of fun with the little bit of art I got in elementary and middle school. So I’m working on developing those skills.

I chose watercolor because they’re cheap, nontoxic, and easy access.

They call us people of color, so why not embrace it? It is here to stay, and that is why I created the Eumelanin collection to celebrate the beauty of Black culture.

From now on, every painting of mine will feature these characters. More in February. Eumelanin: The Intro.

when I was in high school I had male teachers in their 30s who I totally thought I was adult peer friends with. when I was in my 30s and was a high school youth group leader I was like “those are not my friends, those are children.” that’s when I realized those men just had bad boundaries
when i was a 16yo girl i thought i was an adult. coaching 12-17yo girls as a 28yo really hammered home how much i was wrong about being an adult at 16 and how obvious it is to actual adults that a 16yo is not an adult. if they say they cannot tell they are lying because they are a creep.

When neo-fascists began to be followed and recorded, it was Chip that was the one who made the first moves. He gave us the blueprint that antifascist researchers go by today. Thank you, Chip, we will take it from here.

I really want lawyers and judges to fucking think about this shit. I’m having a hard time.

In WA, DUI is a “strict liability” crime, so you’re guilty of it whether you intended to drive under the influence or not. Think how big a miscarriage of justice that is for someone who was roofied.
I am transcribing a trial now of a girl who was roofied—having been roofied I will tell you I am easily convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that she was roofied—but the jury took 15 minutes to convict her of DUI. Her tox screen was positive only for drugs that are basically only used to roofie ppl

There's something utterly heartbreaking about hearing Shakespeare (et al) write words pleading for us to recognize that the stranger among us is human, and that we should imagine ourselves suffering as they do...

... and to realize that, for at least 400 years, we've not gotten this right.
Context: this speech is from SIR THOMAS MORE, a history written, as near as scholars can tell, in the early 1600s by 6 or 7 people including Dekker, Heywood, Chettle, Shakespeare, and Munday.

It was never performed, because Jacobean England was a police state and it was banned by the censor.
Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

I was one of the young women who got out of working in the comics and scifi/fantasy books industries in the early 90s bc of the kinds of things we’ve been talking about this week.

I moved to general bookstores.

It didn’t get any better. I still don’t go to cons by myself. I’m 52 now.
