A few points for people who are continuing to misunderstand what’s going on about the Villa Park fan ban.
1) Banning of away fans happens. This is not unique. It’s happened to Dutch, German, Polish and Turkish fans recently.
2) Football hooliganism is *never* just about football. 1/4

Maccabi are the 2nd most Racist fans in Israel 's premier league, which has a bad racism problem in general www.nif.org/stories/shar...

In the 80s English hooliganism was so bad that every English CLUB was banned from playing in Europe.

Only someone who knows absolutely nothing about football would call this 'Unprecedented'

'Unprecedented'? They banned away fans from a Maccabi Tel Aviv home match at the start of this month.
Lisa Nandy: "He's right to say that it is unprecedented in recent times that an entire group of away supporters have been entirely banned from a game"

Unprecedented in recent times? In 2023 Legia Warsaw fans were banned from a game at Villa Park.

So wait…

Is Tel Aviv now a no-go area for Jews?

Are Maccabi Tel Aviv antisemitic for attacking Jews and Jewish police?

Are Tel Aviv police antisemitic for blocking Jews from a game of football?

Would I be antisemitic for criticising Israelis (and therefore all Jews globally) for rioting?

Starmer and the Met Chief Constable interfered in this case. That's a major red flag and public scandal, abuse of public office, and a collapse of the rule of law.

When transphobes from Graham Linehan to JK Rowling and others are effectively granted immunity that's a problem.

Perfectly timed to distract from Starmer’s disastrous decision regarding Maccabi Tel Aviv.
BREAKING: Case against Graham Linehan for calling for violence against trans women has been dropped by the Met Police.

This now sets a dangerous precedent that anyone can call for violence against trans people with impunity.

What I haven't seen in the questioning so far is the problem that pervaded the whole of the COVID response re: schools: in the middle of a pandemic of a *novel* virus, it was repeatedly *assumed* to have no significant harms to children.

No precautionary principle. What could possibly go wrong?
Q - There is opinion that the statement didn't make sufficiently clear the risks to children from Long Covid - can I ask you about that and whether there was reticence on the part of you and the other CMO's to point out the risks of Long Covid for fear to would scare people into not sending

An American football field is 57,600 square feet.
The entire WH complex is 55,000 square - feet.

The ballroom is over 90,000 square feet.

And they are destroying a large part of the WH to build it.

I hate these people.

And those saying that it was just a matter for more police resources are confusing public order with public safety.

They are not the same - see, for example, the Paris UEFA final of 2022. A public order approach can be at the expense of public safety.

This should never have been second-guessed.
Decades after the Heysel and Hillsborough disasters, can politicians please not second-guess expert safety assessments for football stadiums.

Thank you.

An Aston Villa fan.

Looks like Maccabi have saved the UK government from the spectacle of somehow overturning an expert public safety assessment.

Either politicians make public safety at sports stadiums an absolute priority or they do not.

Maccabi Tel Aviv say in a statement that they will "decline any allocation offered on behalf of away fans" for next month's Europa League match against Aston Villa at Villa Park, adding that "the wellbeing and safety of our fans is paramount."

I find this characterisation of Birmingham as dystopia to be really weird. Yes there's safer/nicer and less safe/nice places (some which vary by personal characteristics like race and gender). On the whole the least-safe I have felt here is with the England Flag stuff from white racists.
The Westminster chatterati’s perception of Birmingham is so utterly deranged by this point I’m actually sitting here laughing

The way people are talking about it you’d think it was some dystopia from the Hunger Games or something

Go outside, touch grass, come to Birmingham - you’ll be fine 😂

OHHHHHH they had to get them survivors out and home before journalists could get to them.
Oh yeah he did some serious ass war crimes
Breaking News: The Trump administration has decided to repatriate two survivors of a deadly U.S. strike this week on suspected drug runners in the Caribbean Sea rather than prosecute them or hold them in military detention, people with knowledge of the matter said on Saturday.

I've spent my life arguing against all football fans being tarred with the same brush, but to not even acknowledge that Maccabi Tel Aviv's far-right fans posed a threat to public order, and Birmingham's Muslims in particular, is next-level racist gaslighting
I never thought being pro-football-hooligan would become a mainstream political position in Britain but here we are.

From the reports I've seen, Israel football fans have behaved disgracefully abroad (although Ajax fans responded very badly too).

The way that football has sorted out such problems is by taking a very hard line on the clubs involved. Not sure Maccabi Tel Aviv can have any complaints.
Do we think she means literally Italian from Italy or “italian” from America (Italian-American)

I think someone mentioned this already, but this is like the *one time* the British can fairly say we get to keep this shit because someone else colonised us.
