miami dade was ground zero for “oh fuck Latinos are shifting right”

may it also portend a dramatic shift back the other way
CONFIRMED: Eileen Higgins, a Democrat, will be the new mayor of Miami.

She'll be the city's first Democratic mayor since the 1990s. She flipped the office from Republicans, and does so easily. She leads the DeSantis-endorsed Emilio González 59/41 right now with most ballots counted.

Kids these days will never get to enjoy the experience of memorizing the whole maths textbook while not understanding any of it so you can recreate enough weird symbols from memory to pass the exam
I do think that some people who didn’t experience being Bad at Math in the 2000s and 2010s are probably really underrating how demeaning that experience was at the time
speaking on the basis of being a humanities type who struggled with math (until I learned to program later on) who felt that society was giving me a constant message in the 2000s that I was a worthless parasite who would die in a ditch on that basis alone

BREAKING: Democrats have *flipped* a seat in Georgia's state House tonight.

Democrat Eric Gisler has won the seat, which was previously held by a Republican who resigned this fall.

This is a red territory: Trump won the district by 13% in 2024.

Yuh-Line was one of the very best electeds helping folks in NYC during the early years of COVID. I respect her HUGELY - and enormously respect her decision to step aside in the NY-10 primary to maximize our chances of beating Dan Goldman. ❤️💪🗽
That’s why today, I am making the difficult decision to step aside so we on the left can consolidate behind a unified progressive candidacy.

folks we are into “breaking gerrymanders” territory here

we are going to win
This Georgia flip is in a district that the GOP drew to drown Democratic voters in Athens into a neighboring red county, Oconee.

But tonight, Dems in Athens were out in FULL FORCE to swamp that gerrymander.

Hey @tkingfisher.com, thought you might enjoy the fruit of an illustration challenge centered around your Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking. I believe the illustrators are mostly students or amateurs hoping to develop their skills, and the challenge was to focus on one character. From Facebook.

I said it before, will say it again -- generative AI fetishizes "ideas" while sneering at effort, execution, and education. That, despite Gen-AI being built on and out of other people's effort, execution and education.
A.I. and the Fetishization Of Ideas

“Which bills in MI's most recent session focused on Building Electrification?”

“Did IL pass any ESG laws in 2025?”

People were literally flying out-of-state to Toys R Us stores in remote parts of the country to get their kids these dolls.
"Must-have" Christmas gift of 1983? The Cabbage Patch Kid 🥬 👶

It started the holiday trend. Desperate parents camped out, while some greedy Grinches resold the dolls at inflated prices. 🎁

The way tech companies constantly do stuff that nobody asked for really tells you a lot about their bigger ideology. They tell themselves that you will like it over time. What they mean is you’ll learn to endure it, or you’ll give up. quality of UI is not actually anywhere on their radar
new iOS update is sleek and also defaults in Music to “you must want songs transition as they would on a dance floor.” so many people will wonder why they can’t just listen to an album. Apps > Music > Song Transitions > toggle off.
