"The choice isn’t between polarization and unity. It’s between democracy and authoritarianism. “Both sides” framing obscures this choice precisely when clarity is most essential for democratic survival." -Scot Nakagawa
I love this person. Speaks to a deep, resentful, PETTY corner of my soul.
That didn’t even sound right

Please acknowledge how deeply Indigenous people are feeling this week, but also generally, about everything that's going on these days.

It's a bad time.

Two grey and white tabbies perch on the corners of kitchen countertops. They wear dissatisfied expressions due to vacuuming and the general hustle and bustle of holiday morning preparations. Also why no turkey for us?

Writers love socialized books (libraries)
TAPS SCREEN

For like the zillionth time: Libraries are FREE for you, but WE still get compensated for our work!!
Just saw someone claim that authors who want to be paid for their work are "class traitors" because we "only let the wealthy" read our books, and I think I need to go into the woods to scream into the night for a bit.

It's $5, not your first-born child! I need that $5 for health insurance!

I love working out at a woman/queer owned gym that fosters a culture of support and inclusion, emphasizes community. Today when I got on an exercise bike, I saw that someone had taped over part of the bike's brand name "Assault Fitness" so it reads ASS FITNESS. Appropriate and wholesome.

It's Trans Day of Remembrance. Today we remember those who were taken from us far too soon because of transphobia in the world.

For many of us, we are misgendered even in death, and disallowed from being who we actually are even when we are no longer here. This is why we remember our dead.

Before the midterms of 1866, President Andrew Johnson called his congressional opponents traitors and said they should be hanged.

Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.

My beautiful but somewhat stern familiar, a grey tabby cat with a white muzzle, ensconced in an Amish quilt, looking straight at the camera with a critical eye. Tom is his name and sometimes he is an unmitigated asshat. I adore him.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

The election is done: a time for reflection. How did I live my values? What was both value-driven and strategic? What did I learn about my party, my city, the opportunities & barriers to progress? Trying to avoid blaming and finger-pointing, trying to stay curious and learning. It’s a challenge.
