The idea that the "unlimited" solar power availability in space justifies this is actually kind of scary, as it implicitly assumes that terrestrial data centers are going to gobble up all of the energy her on Earth, raising costs and reducing livability for human inhabitants.

Word for the day: "adiabatic", which basically means energy in a system being unable to transfer to it's environment.

Intuitively, the tub, right? The air is *colder* but it is far more rarified, so at the physical level there are simply fewer bits of stuff to carry away heat. And space is worse because it's close to vacuum. This is why if you look at the ISS, much of the overall footprint is radiators.

Just because it's being passed around a lot: NO, data centers in space do NOT benefit from space being cold. Space is cold in the formal sense we use to define temperature. But it is very bad at cooling. What would you rather have to cool hot metal: a lukewarm water tub or a giant cold atmosphere?

I tend to think Black Mirror is a pretty dumb, barn-broad show, only innovative to people who've never encountered sci-fi before. So it says a lot that the only ideas tech has anymore are lifted directly from it.

When people say technocultists, faciscts, or evangelicals are a death cult, partly means they are obsessed with death, but also obsessed with the unreality of death. Technological immortality, mass murder as a form of play, and afterlife realism are a denial of the reality and seriousness of death.

major points:

- authorizes ANY person (so bystanders count) to sue for constitutional violations by anyone conducting immigration enforcement

- only successful plaintiffs can get attorneys’ fees (not prevailing defendants)

- can’t waive qualified immunity
Today, I've signed into law legislation that expands legal protections for the people of Illinois.

Dropping your kid off at day care, going to the doctor, or attending classes should not be a life-altering task.

We will counter the Trump Administration's depravity.

To give everyone an idea of what a "special election" can mean, Gisler got almost 3 times as many votes in losing by 22 points last Fall. GOP has a MASSIVE enthusiasm problem at the moment.

We did it, y’all!!!!!!!!!!
In a stealth upset, Democrat Eric Gisler flips a GOP-held Georgia House seat spanning parts of Athens and Oconee County. Gisler won 39% of vote last November. He captured 51% tonight to defeat a Republican backed by Gov. Brian Kemp and other GOP leaders.
