Realistically 9 out of 16 as Little has shown that he tends to err on the conservative side. That should keep him in check though

The new Wellington City Council will include 5 Labour councillors and 4 Green councillors, plus Andrew Little, giving the two party "coalition" an increased governing majority - 10 out of 16 votes, compared to 8 under the previous council.
Marginally better than Ray Chung - make up of the council will be more important

"Do a back flip!" Yelled the rest of Cabinet.

"I can see my house from here" mused Willis from in the helicopter.

"Spot of odd weather they're having, innit?" Said the RW voter from their private island in the bay.

"Anyone see me push?" Asked Luxon as he went back in the helicopter.

Govt to cut #JobSeeker benefit for 18 & 19 year olds who’s parents earn over $65,000, even if the teens have a disability or health condition. With #CostOfLiving & the job shortage they’re cranking up stress levels to 11, all to meet a target.
My #cartoon today about hard-nosed #NZpol
Cartoon. Title: “Job Seeee-e-e-e” Image shows PM Christopher Luxon at the open hatch of a small plane, high above farmland. He’s leaning out, and holding up a parachute pack, labelled “Job Seeker” He’s calling out to someone falling from the plane, “And I’ve kept your parachute because you kids from low-income homes need some motivation” Then he adds, “Don’t let that disability slow you down!”
Seems relevant given our disastrous electricity market that this is the same as when Transpower was sold off. Results will be the same
As a long time Wellington resident I consider it is a myth that cycle lanes are an issue in Wellington. The "issue" has been created by a few long time local whingers who yearn for a city of cars, concrete and pollution.

So, I’ve just come home after spending a few days in Welly where I used both my car & my Snapper card & I still don’t get why people have had tantrums about cycle lanes. There are LOTS & LOTS of cyclists which puts my very flat city to shame. Cycle lanes were absolutely not a problem 🚲 🤷‍♀️

Its totally the kids that are the problem have you seen how much they eat!

It's unbelievable that this article

"Government’s books show finance minister borrowing billions to keep the lights on"

does not once mention the $12to$14Billion tax cut cost they are borrowing to cover, nor the Billions they stole from Pay Equity Fund #NZPol
Government’s books show finance minister borrowing billions to keep the lights on
Treasury has revealed the state of the Government’s finances and it shows we’re borrowing just to keep the lights on.

Just got sent this from an article by Bryce Edwards. This is completely false, and he never once fact-checked it with me. My campaign was run by me and my small volunteer team. Comments like this reflect a tired mindset that assumes women can’t succeed in politics without a man pulling the strings.

The Anatomy of influence - A Wellington case study
Many of the powerful vested interests behind local politicians are barely acknowledged. For example, how many Wellington voters knew that the current Mayor of Wellington, Tory Whanau, had her successful 2022 campaign essentially run by corporate lobbyist Neale Jones?
Jones co-owns and operates the Capital Government Relations firm with fellow political commentator Ben Thomas. The firm is the epitome of the "revolving door"
I recall in the 80s or 90s an SIS agent left his briefcase behind somewhere and it revealed highly secret material of a Playbot magazine and a meat pie!

The other potential problem is that NZLab will act like UKLab if they gain power. Like the UK NZLab may be swept in by a backlash against the Govt, promote no real policy changes and claim a mandate to do nothing just like Hipkins did when he was PM.

This sounds like our current problem with Labour in Aotearoa. We know that National are terrible economically for the majority and BRILLIANT for the tiny minority…labour are bland at best for the majority and still the fuck owned by donors.
Greens at least have real tax and equality policies.

It's not that "the left" is too focused on pronouns. It's that the closest thing to leftists in power (Democrats) are only left-leaning when it comes to self-expression rights. They are bought by corporate money and completely refuse to when discuss leftist economic solutions.

When Maipi-Clarke was attacked, Peters denied responsibility, saying he was "not responsible" for the actions of other people. But today he is laying blame on Chloe Swarbrick and the "hate filled left" #nzpol #kiwi
NZ Herald

Peters says he has no doubts Swarbrick's rhetoric on Gaza incited vandalism on home as man charged Highlighted text about attacks on Maipi-Clarke:

Peters told Newshub that notion was wrong, adding that he was not responsible for the actions of other people
I suppose it's possible to be outraged by the attack on Winnie's home and the genocide in Gaza but not for me. Anything non-genocide at this time is a non issue

This is taking it way too far, #WinstonPeters.
An absolute Trumpian move to blame vandalism of your window on #ChloéSwarbrick for speaking up for #Gaza.

Wouldn't it be grand to hear Labour and @chrishipkins.bsky.social defend our young people and promise to not only reinstate their JA, but build an economy where they are valued and would want to stay a part of? Or are y'all happy for the exodus to Oz to continue?

Luxon is the kind of man who claims every entitlement he qualifies for whether he needs it or not.

Luxon is the kind of man that takes benefit entitlements away from 18 and 19 year olds, saying that "the world doesn't owe them a living."

Luxon has created an economy where they can't find jobs.

The median annual salary in NZ is $69,804, salaries demonstrably cannot keep up with the cost of living, the job market is dire with people leaving NZ in droves, and now the government wants parents to support those who may need a safety net beyond their immediate family.
