$1 billion data centre to maybe create 100 jobs. That's likely an overstatement.

It is truly not worth draining the living word for this vampiric tech and people are starting to realize it.

Things that make generative AI dangerous:

1. Job market impact. As a cutting measure it's being used to generate "boilerplate". This is putting writers out of work.

2. Stock market bubble. When this inevitably crashes it will take out pension funds and savings.

Anyone else noticed how Nazi rallies get the go-ahead fairly easily from state governments, then the horrified public reaction is weaponised to pass anti-protest laws, which are then used to quash anti-genocide dissent and justify police assaults on small brown women? You picking up on this, too??

Would we allow tobacco lobbyists to attend a lung cancer conference?
📣 BREAKING: One out of every 25 attendees at the #COP30 climate talks is a fossil fuel lobbyist.

The arsonists aren’t just in the building — they’re throwing fuel on the fire.

An excellent article that explains why GenAI produces flat, repetitive and soulless writing with “an abundance of verbs and adjectives and a clear shortage of nouns, a clear sign that they are going around in circles to say little.”
Finally one thing they are, due to being statistical models of text, these neural networks and other large language models are indeed designed to do: milquetoastify boringify language.

LLMs steal and drain off human creativity originality verve by merely copying.

The ChatGPT effect: We’ve all started talking like robots
The use of artificial intelligence is leading to a flattening of our language that is evident in the emails we write and the texts we compose. Studies have already confirmed this. Robotic verbiage era...
