Huh, according to this map, East Palo Alto – an unincorporated majority Black community since the 1950s (as a result of redlining) – was a sundown town. Soon after it was incorporated in 1987, the old β€œdowntown” on the west side of US-101 was completely plowed over to build a luxury hotel.
If you're wondering whether your town was a sundown town?

Check this map.

Shout out to everyone that immediately noticed that most sundown towns were not in the South.

This is a direct and expected consequence of not having a network of protected bike lanes.
There's a renewed push to restore parking on Convoy St.

If you have a second please email:
Council President Pro Tem Kent Lee
[email protected]

And tell him to implement parking protected bike lanes. There is more than enough room for both on Convoy.

Everything I'm reading says that DART would kill service to those areas immediately upon them pulling out.

This would be terrible for a lot of residents. But fuck if it wouldn't be funny with the World Cup on the way.

Birmingham's transit system doesn't run on Sundays. They have Amtrak and a real art museum tho
Folks, it might be time for a visit to learn about how another city is doing the things we need.
Birmingham is unexpectedly ticking a few urbanist boxes for me: namely, walkable transit-oriented Waffle House. πŸ³πŸ§‡πŸšŒ

For everyone who keeps saying parking should be free everywhere and public transit isn’t safe:
Once again, more people were killed in collisions on LA streets than by homicide last year
The grim total of 290 traffic fatalities in 2025 took place in the year city officials had vowed to eliminate them entirely.

Have you ever thought that "sport is beyond politics" is a concept imaged to _officially_ silence whatever protest against war crimes on a specific platform.

And to officially secure the right to compete for people related to military aggression.πŸ”½
IOC showed with whom it is.
Honoring russian athletes and disqualifing Ukrainian athlete for wearing helmet as a sine of remembrance of killed athletes by russia.

IOC, you're russian puppet.

In 1970 nearly 50% of the money you spent in the UK went back to Government and Public Services.

Coal, Oil, Gas, Electricity, Water, Public Transport, Social Housing, Telecoms, Shipbuilding, Steel...

All nationalised.

Now 95% of your money goes to tax dodging billionaires.

Bike lanes are not just for bikers, they are an essential means of freedom and mobility and their presence on only a tiny fraction of streets is a huge slap in the face to residents.

I talked to a woman in her late 60s the other day who said she's had to stop riding her bike because the lack of protected bike lanes in her neighborhood makes it too dangerous.

It doesn't have to be this way.

A transit agency almost always has the funding to complete a certain project or goal.

The real question is what part of the system are they willing to sacrifice/defund in order to do so

It's rarely "we don't have funding" but rather, a matter of priorities and tradeoffs

If you propose regulations on e-bikes/e-motos/mopeds/scooters and don't discuss any sort of infrastructure improvements for bicyclists and pedestrians or traffic calming measures for cars, then I will simply not take you seriously.
