First review of AMELIA SHADOWS AND THE NEW HEAD GHOST (out in April from @papercutzgn.bsky.social) and honestly, I don't see how any review can top this one. Huge thanks to Kara for taking a look. Nothing makes me happier than librarians liking the things I make.
Matthew Dow Smith absolutely knocks it out of the park again with another supernatural cozy read. Much like his other works, the characters featured in Amelia Shadows and the New Head Ghost all have such strong presence in so little words. One of the most satisfying part of this work is HOW hard of a punch it packs in such a tiny bite size format. The story is extra satisfying in that its so easy to finish in a short sit down session. Amelia Shadows is a story of a villains daughter, and her ghost butler tutor. The vibes for me are somewhat reminiscent of Witches of Brooklyn, which will thrill fans. This read can appeal to absolutely all ages of comic lovers. The crayon like outlines in the illustrative style add an extremely comforting and magical flair. while the color scheme of heavy purples and blues are nostalgic of many magical stories of the past. This is a must add for any public library collection, and cant wait to share it with new readers.

I’m Dave. I make comics and graphic novels. I would be thrilled to get more cover work or to talk projects for late 2026/early 2027. FWIW I do have a pitch in right now that, if it’s accepted, will push my timeline forward 6-8 months—but I am always planing ahead.
