Aw yeah, it’s St. Katherine of Alexandria’s day! ✊💖☸️
Happy St Katherine's Day to all scholars, librarians, and Katherines. May you win an argument against an annoying man today, in the true spirit of Katherine herself.

Dealing with some health issues and it’s like, is my body pulling a thing like that guy in the second Necroscope book who would cosmically wind up sick at the exact right times to avoid danger and problems

was this morning’s huge clot trying to get me out of editing this medical coding content

Yup, this resonates so hard. Especially as someone who feels overwhelmed pretty regularly - AI workflows that dump lots of explanation and accuracy percentages and stuff on the user set off my “Oh god yet one more damn thing” inner klaxons.

“[W]hen we make these statements, we’re opening up a kind of possibility space. ‘What _if_ the future looked like this?’ By making space to ask questions, we’re making the future feel less fixed, and far less daunting.“

Ethan hitting with the insight again, buds ✊💖

I see your "Mayor of Boston plays with a prominent local classical musician"...

...and raise you with "Future Mayor of Providence has a pro wrestling match with a prominent local priest"

I know that this queer adventure of the Gay-Header’s will be sure to seem incredible to some landsmen

I can’t help but wonder to what extent the recent decision to exclude nursing from federal funding for professional degrees was motivated by interference from mega-corporations peddling A.I. snake oil like the idea that you don’t really need a licensed RN if you’ve got a chatbot or A.I. agent

Alt: An animation where a youth pulls a bottle out of their sack labeled “Snake oil” and a witchy looking character holding a snake staff smiles & responds “No one wants an unoiled snake!”

I went to grad school to study health communication, and to me the CDC was an information source I cherished and a dream career goal. The current situation is heartbreaking.

I really think this kind of thing is a bad idea, because who wants to start a relationship *with a doctor’s office* by realizing the first thing that happened in that relationship is that they tried to trick you?
I went to make a doctor’s appointment today and got transferred to an AI “person” and I can’t overstate my revulsion when it fooled me for the first ten seconds, so that I was trying to be friendly and pleasant, and I realized it I was trying to be polite to a machine.

Rita Hester was a beautiful soul and a fixture of the Boston queer community who lived large and unapologetically. Her unsolved murder sparked Transgender Day of Remembrance, but her story is often forgotten.

Today, we celebrate her life and continue the work to end violence against trans women.
