Agree and like the articulation, but want to remind folks this is similar to the audition problem

Many actors and singers are better at auditioning then being part of a production

Ditto skilled grant writers vs the projects. Interviewing vs. the job
i think a (perhaps underappreciated) aspect of this whole situation is the extent to which every elite profession is filled with people who excel at drawing attention and want to be famous more than they want to do the actual job

I'm pretty anti-AI but I've had family members come to be asking me why it never finds what they're after, then I write a much more clear prompt, and get a correct answer
there’s a lot of irony around how writing a genuinely good prompt for LLMs requires the exact kind of clarity and precision in communication that is taught by good (human) writing instructors - who have now almost all been laid off by college admins

LOLOL. @dfriedman.bsky.social found that the Goodreads page tied to an email of a key Whiskey Pete advisor: it sandwiched Whiskey Pete's book between books about wife swapping!

I'm missing NYC so hard with the guys coming out and shaking things up. Brad was such a king during the mayoral race, a friend to NY for a very long time
I've probably photographed Brad Lander more than any other elected in NYC because the dude shows up. He's everywhere, he's incredibly accessible, and he genuinely loves New Yorkers. You can literally go up and talk to him whenever he shows up. Go ahead, try it!

(I have NEVER seen Goldman ANYWHERE.)

I love it as a performance but tbh I don't know if I relate to it, or view what it's speaking to as the cause of the very problems I'm mad at

Army vet George Retes Jr. was trying to get to work on July 10 at Glass House during an ICE raid. He was handcuffed and jailed for 3 days without explanation. After he wrote about his arrest, DHS accused him of assault, which he called a baffling accusation.

A U.S. veteran spoke out against his wrongful arrest by ICE. Now he’s being accused of assault
George Retes Jr. wrote an op-ed about his arrest during the Glass House ICE raid in July. He says DHS is now spreading falsehoods against him for speaking out.

I love the fact that Jordan Peterson wrote multiple books telling people how they need to live their lives while simultaneously having his own life constantly spiraling out of control.

techbros learning how a thermos works by blowing up a trillion dollars worth of shit in space
It is intensely funny to me that tech bro CEOs on an annual salary of 15 petabillion dollars think data centres can go in space because it's very cold but actually they would get obscenely hot because heat won't radiate into the vacuum of space

I think they learned from the Greenland/Canada/Mexico annexation talk that they just shouldn't shop their plans to the public and just try to do them and see who stops them
I shouldn't have to explain this, this is so obvious that it's insulting to both you and me to say it out loud, but

It was never, literally never, about "drugs". Venezuela has the largest proven oil reserves in the world.

I blamed my move to CA for observing this more, but I fear this rejection of caffeine has implanted into most high-education sectors and it has to fucking stop

growing up, having coffee with dessert at dinner was normal. quit being afraid to live, you ninnies
Cafes across the U.S. are embracing the low- and no-caffeine lifestyle, with options that are a far cry from dusty tea bags and rewarmed decaf. nyti.ms/3XKlqoj

Unions with sharp teeth coming shortly after, hopefully
Tech owners got furious after white collar demands in 2020 and have been getting revenge ever since
I had a long talk with someone yesterday about how all prior logic and norms about the labor market have been called off because capital is in the final push to finally casualize white collar workers the way they’ve long wanted to do. From AI to non-competes to this. They smell blood in the water.
