No one is taking the bait. Regular people armed only with whistles and phones are trying to prevent their neighbors from being disappeared by unaccountable masked armed goons. The differential in power and force between these two sides is so immense it is laughable to even consider them together.

I feel like people who are telling folks in Minnesota not to take the bait so Trump doesn’t invoke the Insurrection Act have a lot more good faith in an aging cruel dipshit who is being feed a steady diet of AI slop by scheming viziers who dream of invoking the Insurrection Act than I do.

Aside from the oft-raised moral issues around cloning, I think one reason to probably ban it/strictly regulate it is that it has potential to break people's brains.

When things die, they are gone. A clone isn't them. We should not muddy that in a world that is burning because tech broke brains

I have the utmost respect for Senator Kaine and Senator Warner but we do not need “coaching” on redistricting coming from a cuck chair in the corner. How about you all stay focused on the fascist in the White House and let us handle redistricting in Virginia. 10-1

Cynicism and might-makes-right pretty well encapsulate my religious upbringing from a practical and theological standpoint and I'm glad someone helped me connect those two and also tie in totalitarianism too!

Gonna think on this more.
I've increasingly come to view cynicism as the seedbed of totalitarianism, both because it can paralyze the opposition and because it implicitly validates the might-makes-right ethic of the authoritarian.
i have been reading Tom Ricks’ “Fighting the Good War” which is a military analysis of the civil rights movement, and one thing that comes abundantly across is that movement leaders and ordinary people made it a practice to refuse to fall into despair and cynicism.

My question?
Assume you *could* reform this? Why? Who needs it? What a monumental waste of energy to do anything but dismantle this monstrous agency of bigoted fuck bags

Aliya Rahman told ICE she was disabled

She told them she was on her way to a doctor appt

They broke her window, cut her seatbelt & dragged her away like an animal

She was headed to the Traumatic Brain Injury Center when they grabbed her.

She was denied access to a doctor & tossed in detention

Anyone else find that their top anxiety wrt letting their children go to public school has shifted from fear of a right wing school shooter towards fear of a right wing gestapo at their school?

Cool society we got here.

ICE must be abolished. It has become a lawless, rogue agency. Federal law enforcement agencies must follow the law, if they're going to have any credibility enforcing it.

We are demanding justice for Renee Good and the prosecution of ICE agent Jonathan Ross for her murder.

If you were a kid playing war in the 80s and 90s, the bad guys were the russians.

In the 2000s and 2010s it was China and the Middle East.

In the 2020s, its the US government.

I'm not saying these kids are just playing rather than protecting their friends. I'm saying they should get to be.
My daughter's school in Richfield, MN (adjacent to Minneapolis) is closing tomorrow due of out-of-control federal agents. Fourth graders spent the week building walls of snow at recess to protect their classmates from ICE. This isn't about immigration enforcement, it's about terror.

It's not even protest. It's community defense.

When the aggressor can invent pretense post hoc, what does "don't take the bait" even mean? They are lawless and violent on their own. It's a call to inaction at a time when direct action is exactly what's needed.

It feels uncharacteristically naive.
wooof having watched that presser just now, "don't take the bait" is a real shit thing to tell people who are, by all knowledge and information and evidence, acting in defense of themselves and their neighbors and their communities

Minnesota is showing us something important. Unlike what tech bros and their social media algorithms would have you believe, average Americans of all backgrounds are for the most part decent people. Given a tangible and immediate choice, they reject institutional hate, even at great personal danger.
