"What if the government could introduce a new inconvenience into every facet of life?" (no doubt sometimes far worse than an inconvenience too)

This is surely a vote winner! We'll see those polls turn around now any day!

Digital ID has gone from needing to be used just for Work, to needed for "Banks, Healthcare, Childcare, rent and much more."

Monitor everybody all the time, to maybe slightly decrease migration.

No thanks.

1. Yesterday, the press gave Gavin Newsom favorable coverage for signing pro-LGBTQ+ bills.

Little noticed, however, was that he vetoed one of the most important ones: a bill allowing trans people 12 month HRT stockpiles, protecting them from federal threats.

Gavin Newsom Vetoes Important HRT Stockpiling Bill For Trans Californians, Signs Other Pro-LGBTQ+ Bills
The bill would have allowed transgender people to maintain a safe supply of medication in the era of government crackdowns on care.

I can't and won't say anything about anywhere other than the US
nemesisadrasteia.bsky.social
I think this question focuses on individuals and I think we'd all be better off if the dominant culture in the US had a better understanding of and relationship to death. not that I've had to have a crash course lately or anything

I think in many parts of society this already happens, too.

starting to doubt the Baeder-Meinhof effect since I've only heard the word "braggadocious" like four times in the nine years since Trump used it before the 2016 election

battleships are so obsolete so of course trump wants a Navy full of them.
sjklapecki.itch.io
The absolute shortest version is that even before things like anti-ship missiles, the battleship was obsolete. Arguably, it was rendered obsolete by the concept of "rifled cannons," but the main thing is that a battleship is huge, full of guns, and slow. These are all very bad for a ship.

You should explain why to me

Light Yagami was a Fucking Cop and I am Simply a Virtuous Chancellor
thescratchmonkey.bsky.social
Well you see Light Yagami's mistake is that he didn't only kill bad people, whereas I would only kill bad people
I think I could be trusted with The Book That Kills People from the classic manga series "No One Can Be Trusted With The Power Of The Book That Kills People" imho

genuinely good on him for signing in the ones he did. he did cook with those. but I am pretty well-versed with health insurance and he's basing these two vetoes on the world as it "should" be, not as it is

signing a bunch of LGBTQ+ protections into law but then vetoing two other ones bc they would cost health insurance companies 0.00001% in yearly profits is just so Newsom
transnews.network
CA UPDATE:

Newsom has signed these queer rights bills:
- AB 82 / SB 497 (Medical privacy)
- AB 1084 / SB 59 (Name/Gender changes)
- SB 450 (Adoption access)

And vetoed these bills:
- SB 418 (HRT stockpile)
- AB 554 (PreP)

Final total: 8 bills signed, 2 vetoed.

If ur a trans person who dares to speak against attacks on your rights and ur safety, the nyt automatically labels you an “activist.”

It’s a Jim Crow tactic, unsurprisingly coming from a fast-degrading institution that’s descended so low that it laundered slavery just last week

yeah man, trans reporters, whom the ny times derogatorily calls "trans activists" so that normies won't listen to them, have been reporting on ADF activity in the UK since 2018.

bigotry in journalism makes you late to the story.

Really important NYT investigation finds that the ADF has been working with Reform, 'courting the party since at least 2024' and that the British arm 'orchestrated Mr Farage’s appearance in Congress, reaching out to ask if he would like to give evidence on censorship'

ADF was basically behind the Keira Bell case and trans reporters were trying to note similarities between that case and how the group uses lawfare in the U.S. to attack trans rights.

Yes this is correct. And the Bell case significantly weakened the Gillick Competency, which is a British legal standard for underage patients to manage their own health care decisions. And it was first established for, you guessed it, teens to get abortions without parental approval.
