i think one of the reasons that it feels like we don’t take games all that seriously sometimes is that anytime anyone tries to offer a critique of a thing everyone loves, the response is immediately “omg why is this happening shut up CONTRARIAN”

I find it interesting how much of the bad faith tearing into moderation decisions veers into this territory lately, where even though the moderation decisions are heinous it doesn't actually warrant the uh, way people use it to unload
the fall of Cohost in part was what happens when there's a community attempt to not engage in bad faith and be authentic, collides with the fact that the people who are the most bad faith think that's what it means to be their authentic selves and leverage followings to evade consequences

1/ everyone's posting their spotify unwrapped as if the platform is full mask-off. a couple years ago i wrote some code that downloads my scrobbles from last.fm, gets album and track data from musicbrainz, and then figures out my top X for each category based on actual play time (not play count).
