I am so utterly baffled at how members of the Pathfinder community can both refer to a product as inferior and then ask the people the company to make changes as if no one is going to get angry.

The “dual state” theory was invented to describe Nazis. The Supreme Court could take us there.

One thing that comes through awfully clearly in these ICE videos is how many of these goons gravitated toward the job because being able to assault people with impunity is a big thrill for them.

Owen don't you remember the classic D20 game World of Darkness? There definitely was and still is a gluten of games that should not exist because the OGL allowed people to copy and paste the D20 system into wildly inappropriate genres.

They don't have union protection. They don't get vacations or sick time. They are paid by the word regardless of how much time it actually takes them to write the text. As staff, we owe it to freelancers to be as upfront about their contributions as possible, because we would have nothing w/o them.

At Paizo, we publish thousands of pages a year. To generate that volume of text in house would be literally impossible without a staff the size of a small country. Without the work of freelancers, our publishing model would collapse. But while we rely on them, they get paid MUCH less than staff.

The interior and cover artists are freelancers as well. Without them, the book would be a shadow of itself. To make the division of labor clear, the freelancers write the raw text. The designers check it for rules accuracy. The developers massage the text into our house style. The editors edit.

Since we're talking about contractors on video games, I thought I'd point out the importance of contractors/freelancers in TTRPGs as well. I'm using the award-winning Tian Xia World Guide as an example. The entire paragraph of authors are freelancers. Without them, the book wouldn't exist. 🧵
