This witness to Alex Pretti's murder not only refutes the governmen't story, but says she is afraid to go home because federal agents might arrest her. This is what it feels like to live under state terror.

It's so exhausting to to be constantly told by American leaders that the defining policy of the 80 odd years during which the US became the most wealthy and powerful country in the history of the world was a grossly unfair failure for them.
US trade secretary Howard Lutnick really not mincing his words here at Davos: "We are here to make a v clear point: globalisation has failed the West and the USA. It's a failed policy. It's what the WEF has stood for, which is, export, offshore, find the cheapest labour in the world."

👇🎯 They don’t understand the first thing about American power, hegemony, prosperity, or national security. Malevolently incompetent authoritarians & their rich, unserious, complicit lackeys like Bessent.
If the basic project is expanding and straightening the American empire, everything this administration has done - destroy soft power, wreck alliances, abandon shared ideals, withdraw for the intl institutions America built, and general erratic behavior - will have the opposite effect.
Bessent on Greenland: "Peace through strength. Make it part of the US and there will not be a conflict because the US right now, we're the hottest country in the world, we're the strongest country in the world. Europeans project weakness. The US projects strength."

This demonstrates the realistic limit of keeping the US engaged for Ukraine

If they're going to consciously hold it over us as a blackmail tool every time they have a new demand then we can't keep saying yes
WELKER: Is Greenland or NATO more vital to natl security?

BESSENT: That's obviously a false choice

W: Not to European leaders

B: They will come around & understand they need to be under the US security umbrella. What would happen in Ukraine if the US pulled support? The whole thing would collapse

Trump will likely try to make Denmark choose between NATO and Greenland, and wider Europe between Greenland and Ukraine.

But luckily Trump has also demonstrated that under his leadership, any US security guarantee won’t be worth much. So the choice should be simple.
What European leaders have been most nervous about is the US pulling back on NATO or Ukraine… but how can Europe trust the US will come to its defense if its trying to seize territory from a NATO country. They can’t. So why cave to keep a security commitment that is not real. 6/

Trump can put a million-percent tariffs on Denmark, and it still doesn't change the answer about Greenland. There are only two possible endings to this bizarre story. Either Trump gives up, or else he goes through with a military invasion.

1/ Something which I don't think gets articulated clearly often enough is that a system where countries generally respect international sovereignty and territorial integrity is not pure charity or morality by the United States, but in its direct interests.

“even if it consolidates its territorial gains and keeps Ukraine out of NATO, Russia will have won only a pyrrhic victory, mortgaging its future for the sake of a few bombed-out square kilometers. In other words, Russia is effectively losing the war in Ukraine—not to Ukraine, but to everyone else.”
For Russia, the war against Ukraine was meant to catalyze national revival, Jeremy Shapiro writes—instead, it has become a case study in national self-harm.
