In Toronto and ottawa, and elsewhere, your dev proposal faces hurdles if there’s any change to shadow impacts on a playground or sidewalk in the heat of summer.

Yesterday, at 87, my dad & former Ontario NDP leader Stephen Lewis, stood for an hour by the road in his old riding.

As a Jewish elder, he stood against genocide embodying the values he has always championed. I am so proud to see him on the right side of history – as always. ❤️

I know this Bloor to Dupont stretch of Bathurst. It’s full of emerging businesses who’d benefit from pedestrian, cyclist and transit traffic more than a few parking spots!

A friend just asked me what I do to stay hopeful and I told him one of my favorite strategies…I stay hopeful by remembering that no one has any idea what the fuck is going to happen, so as long as we don’t know, we gotta do what we can.

The equilibrium Toronto is heading towards is creating a bunch of mediocre expensive urban places that have a lot of walking but aren't really walkable. I guess I prefer that to the previous equilibrium but it's hard to root for.

This is the uncropped version of the famous “tank man” photo from June 4, 1989.

Almost half of the Chinese population was born after this event.

Later that year, Austria permitted East Germans holidaying in Hungary to drive over its border.

The Berlin Wall fell in October.

Quite a year.

If the Summerhill Market owners had simply stated their business concerns, that would be a good faith sharing of an opinion. What they did was hide behind a manufactured "grass roots movement" to try to drive a false narrative, presumably because they feared their motive wasn't sympathetic enough.

I read Genocide Bad by @simkern.bsky.social recently, and am now in the middle of One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This by Omar El-Akkad.

I highly recommend reading them together - they complement each other so well.

Here’s the reason why removing lanes from cars and giving them to bikes and transit makes driving better:

More than half of car trips are going less than the distance of a 15-min bike ride.

Make good alternatives available, those people stop driving and circling around blocks looking for parking.

So the residents ran across the street to alert the fire station, but by then two tents were fully involved. Why not let people have safety gear? Why not let them with with as much safety and dignity as possible until there is REAL HOUSING for them?

Here's an important note about the fire at the church encampment last week. It happened when a candle fell on a tarp. Several encampment residents were awake, but they couldn't put the fire out effectively, because every time we give them fire extinguishers, they are confiscated by the City.

Nobody elected Doug to change how the Judiciary is structured in this country.

He is clearly in opposition to the will of the *elected* city council on this one.

Maybe he should focus on funding healthcare or education appropriately.

This election has felt a lot like pandemic arguments. People focusing only on the current wave, assuming a drop in rates means it's over, and not seeing any of the big picture or understanding larger patterns. 🤷

The problem is the dumbass electoral system...

It's a little rich to be weaponising flaws in a stupid system to pressure people into tactically voting for the party that failed to reform that system.

The #BikeTO community is encouraged to fill out this survey by Thursday, May 1 & oppose banning protests near "vulnerable institutions". Not only does the bylaw violate Section 2(c) of the Charter RE peaceful assembly, It could also affect future memorial rides held when cyclists get killed. #TOpoli

And other people being a little rude and yelling a little at the robbers who are demanding respect & who want to kill literally everyone
