This is the scandal. Trump isn’t targeting dangerous people. He’s targeting peaceful immigrants. Almost exclusively.

Difficult to overstate how profound a failure DOGE was. Spending in FY2025 was not only than in FY2024 – but higher than it was projected to be when Trump first took office.*

The little bit of spending DOGE cut has already killed hundreds of thousands and will eventually lead to millions of deaths.
Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

This week, we marked Transgender Day of Remembrance at City Hall. Trans Day of Remembrance is a day of loving memory and a celebration of resilience. We grieve for the trans folks lost to anti-trans violence. The trans youth who never got the chance to become trans elders.

Abolish ICE. Deny all those who worked for them any honors or employment in government ever again.
ICE’s Detention Center outside Chicago was sued on October 30 for allegedly abusing detainees. One day later, a "system crash" lost all video footage that could have shown how detainees were being treated. trib.al/QwT3aqI

Moving Transgender Day of Remembrance tonight in NYC -- it was great to see so many amazing leaders making a difference on the ground for the trans community in NYC being uplifted and celebrated.
Powerful night uplifting trans leaders and remembering those we have lost at the Transgender Day of Remembrance event led by the City Council and Public Advocate. Proud to celebrate these amazing community leaders, and resolved to keep working for a world without transphobia and violence.

Good evening all. For this year's Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR), TFR remembers three transfeminine authors who passed away this year: Miss Major Griffin-Gracy (78), Valerie Amelia Thompson (38), and Michelle Duff (85) 🖤

We also remember 367+ victims of anti-trans violence and suicide 🕯️

On this Trans Day of Remembrance, we remember the bright and courageous trans people whose lives were stolen by hatred. Their absence is felt across our city.

We will honor them by building a New York where every trans person can live safely, fully and freely.

GREAT NEWS!!! Federal District Court Judge Cathy Seibel ordered that Joel must be released from custody!!!

The judge blasted the Trump Administration as "either Orwellian or Kafkaesque."

Thank you @nyclu.org and The Door for fighting so hard for Joel & so many others.
ICE will arrest anyone—even a 16-year-old who just wants to get back to class.

Joel Camas may be the first unaccompanied minor detained by Trump this term.

The City of Los Angeles has 43,700 homeless people. Seven of them die on the streets every day.

Mobilizing the planning department to slow-walk new mixed income housing near the train stations that taxpayers spent billions of dollars building reflects perverse priorities at best.
After failing to stop a major state housing bill from becoming law, Los Angeles leaders are turning to plan B: Delaying Senate Bill 79's implementation and pushing for unspecified legislative changes next year. My dispatch for @politico.com Pro subscribers subscriber.politicopro.com/article/2025...

A report from the city planning department outlines strategies for pushing off many of the effects of SB 79 through 2030.

This is could well be a historic midterm for Democrats.

Don’t waste it on centrists who won’t come through when it matters. Run vocal progressives.

You won’t end Trumpism without anti-corruption crusaders and warriors for social and economic justice who believe in taxes & big, universal programs.
Those claiming Dems should retreat on racial justice aren't hard-headed realists, they're pushing against the electoral tide rather than leaning into it. The story of Gen Z isn't about racist backlash or red-pilled young men. It's the most racially progressive generation in American history. 🧵

Just to put this into perspective: Losing federal support for capital projects would cost the MTA roughly $14 billion for just the coming capital plan — basically wiping out every dollar raised by congestion pricing.
Suffice it to say, this proposal would be the opposite of what is needed for US transportation policy.

Federal transportation spending has been ineffective, inefficient, and bad for the environment. The Trump proposal would worsen those problems.

US needs a complete rethink of transport policies ⬇️
The Reauthorization of Federal Transportation Programs Offers Policymakers an Opportunity to Improve Effectiveness, Environmental Sustainability, and Access
Federal policymakers should consider three strategies to guide deliberations around reauthorization and improvement of Americans’ quality of life.

Yes, that is as Kafkaesque as it seems; the BIA is saying that a child adjudicated to be abused, abandoned, and neglected, who has already been approved for a status that will permit the child to get a green card, should nonetheless be deported instead — because of backlogs outside of their control.

It's not decent even in concept. We have good evidence that giving people housing, without conditioning it, makes them more likely to benefit from services and supports.

I am so excited that incoming Mayor @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social is prioritizing bus riders. That said, his vision will face big headwinds if the City Council's transportation committee continues to be dominated by car-centric voices. To make fast buses a reality, we need to prioritize bus lanes.
