Western sports journos who write about "shock" medals for Kazakhstan or Poland really need to put more work into researching the background of the people who won those medals.

every so often i remember the menu of that british food place in monaco and i laugh to myself. it's so funny they're selling porridge and 'detox juice' for 27€ and calling it "reinvented traditional anglo-saxon cuisine"

They're the bloody government, of course they can just change the law, that's the fucking job description!
Angeliki Stogia (Labour). Angeliki broadly performed well, but she felt very hemmed in by her government's record. When questioned about trans rights, for instance, she stated that the Labour Party would always stand against transphobia and that they couldn't just change the supreme court decision

613? auspicious

the way that some people are willing to believe absolutely anything bad about an entity they already dislike, no matter how fantastical, without doing an ounce of critical thought about it, fascinates me

Didn't spot this the other day but well worth a read for anyone interested in effective lawmaking at Holyrood level. I know I bang this drum a lot but it is genuinely very stupid the Supreme Court have decided Holyrood can e.g. repeal or amend the Children (Scotland) Act 1995, but not condition it.

You don't have to be a legal boffin to realise that "you could repeal that law entirely, replace it with an identical new law, and that is then subject to conditioning via human rights legislation, but you can't directly condition the original act" is utterly incoherent and can't have been intended!

well for the past 20 years we've had neither, so
Putting economic growth above well-being is such a brain worm that prohibits politicians from thinking.

According the latest TPOF poll, Taiwan's governing party -the DPP-, President Lai and Premier Cho have all regained in past weeks the support they had lost in late Spring last year (when the U.S. imposed tariffs on Taiwanese goods, and a campaign for recall votes was at its peak in Taiwan).

Under a new, more pro-unification leadership, the KMT is losing ground. The TPP has stabilized and is even gaining some traction (though not proven by the poll, the TPP is likely attracting some moderate KMT voters, while at same time losing some pro-Taiwan sovereignty voters to the DPP).
