Trump's conduct here and his comments about Pretti and Ilham Omar are all consistent with a diagnosis of severe malignant narcissism. A malignant narcissist feels no compassion for others or their losses and understands everything only in terms of how its affects him or his reputation or self-image.
Trump on Renee Good: "I know her parents were big Trump fans. Makes me feel bad anyway, but I mean I guess you could say even worse. They were tremendous Trump people."

somehow i have pissed off both BlueAnon and quasi-left twitter by saying that Obama was the best president within my lifetime with Biden a close second (but that the bar is so low in the US to be considered a "good" president)

news you can use. I am in the “there should be more extremely well-behaved dogs everywhere who are friendly to me personally” camp
“Dentists who participated in the study described calmer patients, smoother procedures, and a friendlier office atmosphere. Compared with costly pharmacologic sedation, a therapy dog was “a remarkably cost-effective adjunct,” the authors concluded”
Dogs might be the secret to getting some anxious patients in the dentist’s chair
Been avoiding the dentist? Would knowing a dog is waiting for you make a difference?

Fun fact: at one point in the 1800s, ice was America’s second largest export, after cotton

having served on a jury in which I was one of only two white people, my anecdote supports the research.
Research shows that more diverse juries are less quick to convict, and that they deliberate longer and more carefully.

A landmark reform by Governor Phil Murphy this month will make the jury pool in New Jersey a lot more representative of the state.
In a Final Act, New Jersey Governor Opens Jury Service to Thousands with Convictions
New Jersey has been one of the harshest states in banning people with records from juries. Murphy’s order restores eligibility to over 300,000, but stops short of permanent change.

I am on record as a doomsday clock hater. It is a vestigial meme from the cold war that lacks context or actionable info. What do you do when this clock ticks forward asymptotically? Say "OK" and move on. Soon they will be counting milliseconds to midnight, licking the carpet for crumbs of relevance

as @theophite.bsky.social has observed, "making the libs cry" can eventually result in the libs getting so mad that they figure out how to construct an artificial sun than drop it on you
They thought making the libs cry was the end goal, not the end of Act III

whoops

This was just me making this comparison yesterday, but today the Korean news is calling Minnesota "America's Gwangju" and have human rights lawyers explaining how America is now living through the dictatorship Korea once had.
The Chun regime that my wife fought against in the 80s did the exact same thing. They needed a "crisis" that "only they could solve" to hoard more ill-gotten power, so they chose one city (Gwangju), declared its inhabitants enemies, sent trucks full of soldiers to violently attack and kill them.

They're openly hostile to our civic creed and the legacy of the American Revolution, but many of them are also genuinely, absurdly, "how did you make it through middle school?" ignorant of the most basic highlights of American history.
Attorney General Pam Bondi: "Our country was founded on law enforcement"
Bondi: "It's extremely organized. The signs they have are all matching, they're well written. And look at what's happening today. How did these people go out & get gas masks? These protesters. Would you know how to walk out on the street and buy a gas mask? Think about that. We're not gonna have it"
