One sentence would absolutely repair the act, and the fact that Labour are too far-right to consider this is absolutely on them, but you can't excuse the actions of the SC in all this.

This and their actions leading up to the ruling is enough proof for me to see it as ideologically driven.

Yeah for sure it would be really easy to fix what was pretty clear and settled 15 year old law.

The point is that imo if anti-LGBT extremists weren't hammering away at literally every avenue of trans exclusion, then this would never have been ruled this way. Ever.

In my opinion, there's basically no way this would be misinterpreted by anybody without an axe to grind, and anybody claiming that the EqA2010 never intended to be inclusive of trans people is a fucking liar trying to cover up this axe grinding.

I'm EqA2010, under "gender reassignment" it says that someone with this characteristics is someone who is "proposing to undergo, are undergoing, or have undergone a process (or part of a process) for the purpose of reassigning their sex.”

I'm not ruling that out, but if someone tells someone to punch you, you can't say the person who then punched you bears no blame.

The SC intentionally misinterpreted the EqA2010. Whether they did it at the behest of someone else or not, they still did it.

While it's true that Labour could attempt to fix the EqA2010, it's completely possible that the SC will just "nah" through the repair and say that sex is again this nebulous "biological sex" that nobody can define, other than to exclude those 'icky tr*nny freaks' from public life.

As much as I would like to blame Labour for this mess, the Supreme Court's decision was contradicted in the very piece of legislation they were ruling on.

The EqA2010 is quite explicit under the section under gender reassignment that a trans woman is a woman and trans man is a man for all purposes.

British people look at people like Alan Turing, who committed suicide because the British government refused to allow him his humanity, and they will rightly blame the government.
