I genuinely have no idea how to convey this to the American people, but I think the biggest impediment to any kind of immigration reform is that people are convinced that "legal" and "illegal" are immutable, intrinsic categories instead of a rapidly-shifting arbitrary constellation of regulations.

The whole thing is worth a watch, especially if you don't know the history of our people. The part about our ancestors not passing down the language because of shame is something I've been told by my own family. But this here is the crux of it to me as someone of Cajun descent.

Really interesting. These are the same reasons the majority of recruits give for joining the military; I wonder what makes someone choose BP/ICE vs the military? Am guessing some of it is education - mil generally prefers a HS degree to a GED - but would be interesting to find out more.
