Really interesting. These are the same reasons the majority of recruits give for joining the military; I wonder what makes someone choose BP/ICE vs the military? Am guessing some of it is education - mil generally prefers a HS degree to a GED - but would be interesting to find out more.

There are some exceptional cases in which police should be allowed to hide their identity for fear of retribution. They should be exceptional and based on a serious, substantiated threat, not their standard way of interacting with the public.

There is a very similar pattern for Black over-representation in the military, which is often the employer of last resort in a society with rampant labor market discrimination keeping folks out of other jobs.

We're seeing some weird trend where SOF officers feel free to act far outside their lane, mistaking themselves for a classifying authority and a JAG, and contact veterans to harass them about what they say in public. They won't ever contact me of course, but they'll go after others.

Black History is also personal history. I draw inspiration from my family history - My Uncle Alton the 1st Black Judge in RI, my Aunt Beverly Wiley, a leader in Womens softball & my father, George Wiley. Wiley Hall at URI was named for them. Fortitude is their gift. #BlackHistoryMonth2026
