In light of the Trump/Musk circus, let me remind you of your favourite Romanian language fact:

When someone throws stupid tantrums hurting their own interests just for the sake of being an ahole, we say they hit their own testicles with an adze (carpentry tool). The Romanian word for adze is Tesla.
I just kept pursuing things that were interesting, were making a positive difference or ideally both. That's how public health found me.
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

Hah!
Holy shit. So Elon decides it would be nice to know what region of the world people are posting from. So they add that little feature.
2 hours later they figure out that many Trump supporters with millions of followers are posting from other countries. Surprise!
That "feature" is now gone.

That sounds dangerously like that episode of The Thick of It where they do a focus group of one person who turns out to be a paid actress.
Morgan McSweeney (UK Labour's Dominic Cummings knock-off) is reportedly experimenting with 'synthetic voters' – "essentially fake focus groups of AI voters who can tell ministers more quickly and cheaply what the public thinks of policies" www.spectator.co.uk/article/can-...

For those of you in the UK, especially if you are a UK citizen, can you please take part in the consultation on changes to Indefinite Leave to Remain (Settlement) that were just proposed by the UK government. We need as many people as possible to reject these proposals. www.gov.uk/government/c...
Earned settlement
The government is consulting on how the current settlement system should be reformed and how those reforms should be implemented.

Hah, unsurprising.
A few weeks ago this Reform rising star went on LBC & said young people were being paid too much, citing his experience in hospitality.

So we looked into his companies & found 3 tribunal judgments for failure to pay wages, holiday pay & provide contracts

I'm trying not to swear on social media, but :

For fuck's sake, when have we decided that refugees fleeing persecution and atrocities aren't allowed a bit of joy?
There is so much messed up about this front page Express story today.

There's no suggestion or evidence ANY alcohol or drugs was consumed. This is literally just people dancing.

And buried in the piece: "The footage is believed to have been filmed just before Labour took power in July last year."

I thought Samsung Galaxy were pretty good and fancy? Used to have them some years ago, but switched to Google Pixel- to which I've been faithful for the past 3 years or so. (One time I did have my Pixel snatched in the Tube too, so that one is attractive to thieves I guess).

1. These changes will force refugees - people fleeing war, torture, persecution - into a state of permanent precarity for two decades. It is very difficult for people with time-limited leave to secure good work, as most employers look for certainty. Shutting refugees out of good work only... (1/X)

My granddad was a refugee, my wife, our close friends and those of our kids are either immigrants or the children of immigrants.

Do ministers ever think about the message their rhetoric on "handouts" and "golden tickets" for migrants sends about whether this is a government for people like us?

The best way to understand what is actually “driving the small boats” is “if something carried a one in a 100 risk of death, would you do it it it gave you ten more years of healthy life?”
Shabana Mahmood tells Sunday Times it should take 20 years for somebody granted refugee status in UK to secure permanent status (ie, reapply 6 times) if came without permission.

Paper says Denmark has toughest settlement timeline (8 years) but UK govt wants longer

The real issue isn’t immigration, it’s the feedback loop: platforms amplify anxiety → voters feel it → politicians chase it → hollow policy follows. Until we break that cycle, we won’t get functional decisions or functional democracy.

I came to this country as a child refugee. No English, no certainty, no idea what my life could become. Britain gave me refuge.

Not on a timer, not with conditions attached, but with a chance to grow roots.

Matt Godwin's opinions are very, well, unbritish.
Goodwinism is an unpopular, extreme view.
10% of white people think you have to be white to be English - but 84% of white people disagree with that. Two-thirds of ethnic minorities think Englishness is a civic, not ethnic identity, though 1/4 of minority groups join 1/10 of the majority group in seeing it as ethnically defined (YouGov)
