I have been doing my podcast since April 2024. I started it as a way to share my thoughts on organizational psychology, applied psychology for media and technology, etc. to help people understand their world. Some episodes were intentionally very relevant to this moment. I’m resharing them today 🧵
If you missed it yesterday:
🎙️ Just published a new episode of PsyberSpace: Limerence: When Obsession Masquerades as Love 📣 Reply to let me know what you think!

You mean the 10 top wealth hoarding creeps who are destroying everything they touch. We should stop acting like accumulating wealth is 1. a good accomplishment 2. not destructive as fuck to the rest of us.

The White House “Media Offenders” list is the governmental equivalent of an author who defied the cardinal rule not to read the reviews and is now on a days-long goodreads screed against their critics. Folks, if you’re in the comments, you’re already losing.

Hollywood worked VERY hard for this to be the dominant view in the US.
I just had a dude argue that war crimes don't apply during war, and I just don't know if our country can survive this level of stupid.

Every day I wake up with a song stuck in my head. I call it my “morning DJ”. Today’s song is a blast from the distant past. 😆
a group of women are standing next to each other in a hallway .
Alt: We're clearly soldiers in petticoats And dauntless crusaders for women's votes Though we adore men individually We agree that as a group they're rather stupid Cast off the shackles of yesterday! Shoulder to shoulder into the fray! Our daughters' daughters will adore us And they'll sing in grateful chorus: "Well done, Sister Suffragette!"

The president has illegally declared war to stop fentanyl trafficking from a country that does not traffic that drug, claiming its leader is trafficking drugs himself, the day after pardoning a former leader of a country who is a convicted drug trafficker.

don't forget it: Libraries BUY tons of books! And the more they circulate, the more they have to purchase more copies as they wear out (or the e-book checkouts expire). libraries and schools buy a huge portion of the books by new, local, and lesser-known authors. Use the library!
Yes exactly! Don't feel bad like you're not supporting authors if you use the library. You totally are & we're grateful!
Ooh, I feel that. But! The more that we use our libraries, the better funded they become, and they *do* pay for their books (including e-books!), so the author is still being paid for their work and you're supporting the librarians and excellent people who work right there in your community <3

As a Data Guy, these headlines make my life so much harder. Takes so much time to get folks to understand that AI tools aren't a shortcut around the foundational data work... that, if anything, they can compound the garbage in, garbage out problem.
Last month, @theguardian.com framed this historical event project the same way; minimizing the years of archival work, the interviews etc it took to be able to do this.

Instead ‘AI solved this historical problem!’

Waiting for someone to make the ✨very necessary ✨ Chrome, Safari, FireFox extensions to block all AI content, everywhere. In email, search results, tabs, research portals, online document environments like Office & GDocs, video, etc. (Yes, there are other browsers, but most folks won't adopt them)

When I went home to Mississippi last week, a Black farmer welcomed folks to pick greens from his land for free. It made me wonder whether other communities across the country were also giving back ahead of the holiday.

The answer: yes, they are.

somehow it's "hoarding" when I keep my old tech as long as possible and resent forced obsolescence

but not "hoarding" when billionaires and tech companies suck up all the money and burn though the planet in search of endless growth
stupid young people, stop buying a new phone every year if you don't want to be broke. wait no, not like that.

ICE deported a woman who owned a home in the US for 30 years. A judge banned ICE from deporting her to Sierra Leone where she had been tortured, so it deported her to Ghana, which kidnapped her and sent her back Sierra Leone anyway. ICE is part of this illegal conspiracy.

The messaging around climate change has always bothered me. The planet will adapt and continue. Humans won’t. Perhaps focusing on the impact on humans would have lived the needle on making polluters (corporations, data centers, etc) comply with changes.
