Here's a short video of my three complete sculptures and the two under construction.
I decided to try a bit more intricate work with Apoxie Sculpt, something I usually prefer Super Sculpey for. This is one of the devils coming out of the turtle, in progress.

I would really like to write the story I've been solicited to write for this collection. (Space opera! Fashion! Politics!)

But it needs to get funded for that to happen.
We have 12 days to go on our crowdfund for WHAT ELEGANT STARS and still need to raise about $7k. We've just added a reward "add-on" for a short story critique with editor dave ring if that would be of interest.

We also still have two Benefactor Rewards at $1k that would be incredibly impactful.

I realize I have two and a half unfinished sculptures on my desk. I'm still tempted to take Cthulhu off the plaster base it covers and sculpt a mask or head.

I love to travel with physical notebooks, so I picked up a Lochby Field Folio and am really enjoying it. It's well made and the A5 model is large enough to hold a notebook, writing tools, plus an iPad mini. Highly recommended for notebook nerds.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology
She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

I want every single one of you who is an artist to find success and happiness making it, and I want every one of who loves to consume art to be swimming in an absolute sea of genius. Every attempt to shortcut that muddies those waters and robs real artists of success. That's my anti-AI stance.

🧵 for any FIYAH authors with published story files/summaries appearing on The Writing Atlas. We weren't involved with this curation (and presumable theft) and are taking steps to protect your work.
Distraught, enraged, and tired. An author cc’d @fiyahlitmag on an email to The Writing Atlas, a site dedicated to “cataloging short stories.” There are 130 FIYAH stories listed with (presumably) AI summaries. Some have LINKS to a Dropbox folder. Our issues aren’t publicly available for scraping.

I do think vegan copycat recipes need to have some kind of disclosure of how long the taster has been vegan. Because trying to say a carrot boiled in liquid smoke tastes "just like a real hot dog" tells me the person has not had a real hot dog in decades, if ever.

Every so often I open Instagram to see if I'm missing anything. While I miss seeing so many sculptors and other artists, it's maybe 60% ads, 35% follow suggestions, and 5% the actual people I follow. 🙃

Impossible to quantify how much this has already hurt the next generation of scientists.
This a word cloud from the titles of ~1100 terminated NSF grants.

It is hard not to see these grant terminations as an attack on the training of the future United States scientific workforce.
