Birds and theology, sometimes at the same time. Sometimes I pretend to be a Piping Plover.
Very good advice on preparing for major holiday meals, which also works for major Church services, FYI to clergy who are panicking because how does Advent always manage to sneak up on you???
I’ve loved them all when I love the people. So by all means, dive in, try something new, get excited, delight your guests, whoever they may be.

But you can also just make dinner and have dinner together. Other than maybe getting a turkey thawed and cooked, you can just … make dinner.

Here's a little more detail of the eye ring on the male Black-headed Trogon at Agami Island. The blue is skin; not feathers.

One day, I hope to get a closer view of this species.

There are a lot of different eagle and hawk species in South Africa, but there was one in particular that I was hoping to see.
It was kind of hidden by branches, high in a tree , but then, this African Fish Eagle took off to check out the riverbank in the late evening light!

One of my favorite birds. This kingfisher caught a crayfish in a suburban pond, beat it against the branch a few times, and after about 10 tries swallowed it whole. Extra angles included because she's a beaut. 🪶

NEW: Churches in Charlotte are hosting trainings on how to response to ICE agents — with *hundreds* filling pews.

At one training, a child led those gathered in "This Little Light of Mine" — but changed the words to “All around Border Patrol, I’m gonna let it shine" religionnews.com/2025/11/20/a...

(RNS) — As many as 500 people, a mix of clergy and other volunteers, have appeared at the training sessions on how to counter ICE.

Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics"

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

No idea where I'm going with this one lol

Though after years of strict work not having a goal is always nice

This will likely be up for sale when I'm done.

Is real. Can confirm. At this point I think they're just messing with us.
On the north shore of Lake Erie there's a gigantic greenhouse lit with a warm red glow.

It shines bright enough you can detect it from the Ohio side of the lake as a red beam that lights low clouds.

I know this because daily someone posts it to Ohio aurora watching groups, thinking it's the lights

It's not that church people are more likely to be like this, it's just that people who are like this are more likely to seek out churches.

So I'm listening to a reactor I like reading a Reddit story about an incredibly toxic player who broke a group.

GM was basically too nice, and the new player set up conditions that ruined the group, forcing the game to *constantly* center around her helpless character that they had
