Well done University of Canterbury!

If you're at a university that's still using X, could you ask them to follow suit?

You can point out how embarrassing it would be to be the last university left at the Nazi Bar and Non-consensual Nudity Emporium! 😬
UC has assured me it will, at least, remove links to X from all its comms and will not be posting to its account

Budgets are about priorities. The idea is to tax things you want less of & subsidise things you want more of

In Australia we spend $14 billion per year on fossil fuel subsidies & we are cutting science jobs at CSIRO…

As i said, budgets are about priorities #climate

If the Government's top priority is productivity, slashing the CSIRO budget does not make sense
Research and development is one of the major drivers of productivity and the CSIRO has a long track record of making productivity enhancing breakthroughs.

We saw it with big tobacco, we saw it with the fossil fuels industry. When their own internal research showed the harm from their product, the defunded the research and attacked independent researchers coming to the very same conclusions.

Now, instead of imagining the plastic floating out in the ocean for hundreds of years, making a mess and endangering marine life (yuck), imagine more and more CO2 pollution floating up in the atmosphere for hundreds of years, making a mess and endangering all forms of life (super yuck)
It's astounding how much CO₂ we put into the atmosphere each year by burning fossil fuels.

For comparison, we all agree that plastic pollution is bad, but the mass of ALL THE PLASTIC humanity has ever produced is only 25% of the CO₂ we emitted into the atmosphere in 2025.
1) Fossil fuel
Still no peak. Emissions are projected to increase by 1.1% in 2025, reaching 38.1 GtCO2. An all time high.

This is deplorable.

Koalas suffer and ecosystems are trashed, because the Victorian government won't take sufficient proactive measures to prevent koala starvation.

The issue has been known for months, and such crises are predictable and preventable.
