So many things piling up against Apple here. They’re traditionally slow, but AI moves exponentially faster than other tech. They worry about safety/control, but AI is inherently chaotic.

This is genmoji doing “a sad man.” We may actually cure cancer before they crack emojis.

Heaven's Gate really the GOAT cult. No weird sex stuff, no child abuse, just a bunch of nerds who were really into UFOs. Pretty harmless, up until, you know, the end

WIFE: You mean eggs Benedict

ME: *pouring Hollandaise sauce over a sausage roll* I do not.

Paradise is a fun show and the penultimate episode is an instant classic. Legitimately don’t see how the finale even stands a chance against it.

Bluesky is a great way to experience this. It hasn’t quite figured me out yet, so my algorithm is weird. There are people literally losing sleep over celebrities that I remain unconvinced are even real.
Gamer friends hadn't heard Fast Car and knew absolutely nothing about Drake/Kendrick.

I don't want to overreact. But sometimes I get the sense that while we all live on the same blue planet, there are billions of different worlds that we inhabit, each mutually-impenetrable to all the others.

We all know how the 1st domino will fall. The first consumer robots will vacuum and do your laundry, then someone from Philadelphia is going to fight one. From that point forward they’ll need to be able to defend themselves. One firmware update later, you may as well have a gorilla in your home.

When my grandchildren asked why the robots took over, I'm going to tell them it's because we started asking for usernames and passwords on seperate pages.

A thing I admire about billy corgan is he heard his voice and was like I'm going to be the lead singer of a band and people are going to enjoy listening to this and he was right

The Substack user experience for publishers should be copied mercilessly. It's beautiful. Of its many wins, I love that when you schedule a post, the button dynamically changes. That way, if you accidentally click the wrong day, it's immediately obvious.

I’ve never understood the political layer over sports that my parents’ generation referred to when discussing Canada/Russia hockey.

Now that we’ve got one…

To me one of the more fascinating sides of AI is that it does remarkably well in the role of therapist (or even friend lending an ear). People are very quick to ridicule this, so it’s become a taboo, which drives awareness down.
This new paper shows people could not tell the difference between the written responses of ChatGPT-4o & expert therapists, and that they preferred ChatGPT's responses.

Effectiveness is not measured. Given that people use LLMs for therapy now, this is an important (and urgent) topic for study.

While “Skynet robot apocalypse” is certainly more sexy, I believe this is the more realistic AI disaster outcome.

I feel YouTube is an under-appreciated advancement we take for granted. Readily available video to learn anything we want, basically for free. My older brother learned to drum from _magazines_.
I've started learning piano via youtube tutorials and let me tell you, it has unlocked a part of my brain that I don't think had been mobilised since I was a kid. It feels really good.

The world is hard and therapy is expensive. Dance meanwhile beats all other mental health strategies. What I’m saying is VR headsets and Synth Riders should be subsidized as a part of Canadian health care.
