Let me introduce myself. I'm a professor @usask.bsky.social at the University of Saskatchewan. My group works on invasive wild pigs, caribou, wolves, and other beasties. I take the responsibility of my academic freedom very seriously and use it and good science to hopefully have some influence.

Monday ice update - #Arctic sea ice extent is currently the *lowest* on record (JAXA data)...

• about 450,000 km² below the 2010s mean
• about 1,030,000 km² below the 2000s mean

Malcom Ramsey a polar bear scientist said to think like a polar bear - they only catch a seal once in every 12 tries and they are fat and happy. So if you can get 1 out 12 it is 'enough'!

We used to joke about all of the students having six grandmothers die in one term but turns out a lot of those cases are people in real trouble and it was easier to say grandma passed when they couldn't get out of bed for physical or mental health reasons.
