The more I read about this peace deal in Gaza the less credit I am inclined to give Trump for 'twisting Netanyahu's arm'. At the moment all the hostages are free, the IDF will still be occupying 1/2 of Gaza. This seems like basically the deal Bibi always wanted, and Hamas always wanted to avoid

Thiessen having a good chuckle about his fired liberal colleagues - some of whom he worked with for 15 years - is a good reminder that token conservatives at mainstream news outlets are/were there to destroy them, not to contribute to them.

Adventures in framing:

Headline presenting this as a real-world question. Rather than as another sign of deepening vortex of narcissistic delusion and detachment from reality.

We found a troubling emergent behavior in LLM.
*When LLMs compete for social media likes, they start making things up When they compete for votes, they turn inflammatory/populist
When optimized for audiences, LLMs inadvertently become misaligned—we call this Moloch's Bargain

I will give Thiessen that he’s always openly been a giant piece of shit which is at least better than most of the lying liars who lie bigly on the right so

It is pretty galling that the Supreme Court spent four years telling Biden "you can't do that without Congress" then allowed Trump to seize a once-unthinkable amount of power from Congress within nine months and concentrate law-making authority almost entirely in the executive branch.

I think what the "we must make sure nothing upsets or discomfits the smol bean middle American" side of this debate misses is that there are huge quantities of human misery and death down both of these paths and all we are doing now is deciding upon whom that misery settles, and when.

Not only do they not care they resent every actually creative person they've ever met. AI is largely revenge against the artist. It's the guy looking at the Jackson Pollock painting saying "i could do that" writing to program that does a poor job copying it.

Which is somehow even worse because it betrays a complete lack of understanding of what those jobs are and why they exist!

I recently wrote my first novel. The hardest part was transitioning between the scenes so I could hit the required plot points in a way that makes sense. The idea of using AI to “solve” those problems is abhorrent. If you’re using AI, you’re not a writer. Period.

They don’t care, the goal of this evil technology is to destroy the human spirit, so that the alleged cost savings are minimal and actual artists rightly despise the technology is irrelevant cause it’s still a justification to force it on people

SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

The Arab Spring really was a key, decisive event in world politics: it demonstrated to corrupt authoritarian regimes that they needed to move decisively to ramp up surveillance and crack down on dissent to prop up their control. And I do not mean “only authoritarians in the Middle East”.

Saudi Arabia's investment in Twitter boosted its influence while being used at home to silence regime critics. "They're surveillance states. They're police states.
They want to use the latest tech to stay in power and surveil their populations."
