What I always hear: “We can’t afford to pay our workers more than $15 an hour.”

What I never hear: “We can’t afford to pay our CEO millions of dollars a year.”

Funny how that works.

Who do I know near Oakland who needs beautiful voids?

[alt text: repost contains two photos of black cats, one staring up at camera with big yellow eyes, the other rolling on a blue rug, green eyes blurry from motion]
I’m facilitating the rehoming of two sweet cats who belonged to a friend who recently passed unexpectedly. They deserve a stable place to land. 2-3 year old bonded pair, one male one female. Please send me a DM if you have the interest and ability to care for these sweet voids. Located in Oakland.

Had a pretty shitty epiphany last night that kept me up all night. I have absolutely no education in finance/economics. But I keep seeing ppl say the forced AI bubble is the only thing driving the US economy at the moment. Which got me thinking about what it is that we actually produce here.

Every squishy center-leftist who had “legitimate concerns” about some youth transition needs to face facts: there was no counterparty you could negotiate on the margins with. The other side wants trans people not to exist. It’s that simple.
Just now, a national trans healthcare felony ban for youth has passed the US House, with 10 year prison terms.

3 Dems crossed party lines to vote to jail providers.

4 GOP crossed party lines to vote against.

It is not expected to pass the Senate, where Dems hold filibuster power.

Story to come.

This is why you never give an inch to the bigots. All those centrists dems (Newsom, Mayo Pete) claiming there are concerns around trans kids, you're complicit in this.

This doesn't get rid of trans people, it just makes them suffer unbearably. Get your head straight: trans rights are human rights.

For the second year in a row, the wealth gains for the 100 richest Americans exceeded what ALL American households spent on groceries combined.

~$995B for billionaires vs ~$775B in total grocery spending.

We have an oligarchy and inequality problem masquerading as an affordability crisis.

In today's episode of infuriated rants about capitalism: Planned obsolescence is bullshit. But if we're stuck dealing with it, it sure would be nice if I could pay off things like phones and cars before they stopped working entirely.

No they weren't. They just wanted to feel better about not doing it.

as a grantwriter, the lack of unrestricted funding is a MASSIVE burden on nonprofits. everyone wants to fund a new shiny pilot program that makes them look like innovators. they don’t want to help make your tried and tested programs that have served the community for 50 years more sustainable
The headline I feel like is that all the philanthropic donations from billionaires typically have a shitload of restrictions.

Mackenzie is like “you’re doing work to stop something horrible or to help something good? Cool. Here’s a few hundred million.” and the paper is like “wow… so novel”
Mackenzie Scott’s signature philanthropic style is giving unrestricted gifts—a rarity in the industry. trib.al/DjrurgM
